World Cup Group B - Pool Matches Discussion Thread

Swapnil Patil (UAE) played junior level cricket against Rahane in Mumbai.

What the SA win has done is it resurrects their NRR. If India slip up in any of their upcoming games, then SA can really step up the competition for the top spot in Group B. India must just hope that they do not fall on a banana skin. And they still have one hard game to go against a resurgent West Indies at Perth.

I think Bhuvneshwar must be given chance for this match as India can test his players well in this match.

We have a strong run-rate already, we know we'll win this match; please, bring in Bhuvi, Rayudu and Axar.

Good that Bhuvi will play the match. Also that India will get to test her chasing approach.

And that's gone!!!. Wow India got their first breakthrough very early by dismissing Krishna Chandran Karate

The way UAE is playing it seems that they will not be able to score more than 150 runs. Lost 2 wickets again more

Even though it was against UAE, it is so thrilling to see Ashwin in something close to "top rhythm". He has bowled the best that he ever has, in all of these 3 matches. Ashwin triggered the slide vs Pakistan with those maidens and the wicket of Haris Sohail. Ashwin recovered spectacularly after an expensive start vs SA to pick up 3 wkts at an economy of just over 4. And now, he has his career best vs UAE. Tremendous turnaround for Ashwin! And touch wood, he keeps continuing like this. When Ashwin becomes a good bowler overseas, Dhoni or any captain can apply that now famous mid overs choke and win a lot of games.

Defeating UAE doesnt look like a good thing watching the hike in the prices of Diesel and Petrol today. :D

An excellent game of cricket today. Pakistan were almost down and out until captain Misbah saved them the blushes. To be fair though, they should have won convincingly and had a few of Zimbabwe's middle order batsmen stayed around the result would have been completely different than what it was.

So if Australia does end up playing India in the semi final then I don't think they would pick Sydney, Adelaide, or Melbourne for the location. They would probably want to play us at Brisbane where the pace and bounce is better.

The Australia semi is in Sydney unless they play us

Brisbane has already completed all its games in this World Cup. The three QF's for Australia are in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The one semifinal in Australia is at Sydney. Also according to this Cricinfo Groups page, Australia have already been assigned to Adelaide (March 20th) for their quarterfinal regardless of where they finish in Pool A. And they will play in Sydney if they qualify for the semifinal - ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 | ESPN Cricinfo

Let India first cross the QF stage. I am interested in seeing who our potential quarterfinalist will be. Even a single slip up for us in the remaining 3 league games could potentially push us down to No.2 in the group (seeing the way SA are blanking out other sides). In that case, we will most likely play Sri Lanka in the quarterfinal at SCG on March 18th. If we finish at the top of Group B, we will play England or Bangladesh at the MCG on March 19th

I'd rather have India play that QF in Melbourne. You saw the rousing support we had during the match versus South Africa. India will need that behind them. Playing Sri Lanka, that too in Sydney is not a relishing prospect. A wicket that typically suits the sub-continental bowlers, one wouldn't want India playing Lanka at that ground.

I am also looking forth to the Australia Sri Lanka match cause that is going to be one great match, potentially determining the group order there.

The semi-final line up is this way
Semi-final 1 - Winner QF1 (A1 v B4) v Winner QF3 (A3 v B2)
Semi-final 2 - Winner QF2 (A2 v B3) v Winner QF4 (A4 v B1)

If Australia does slip up against SRL, we may end up having a SAF-AUS quarter which will be a treat to watch.

Also, on the ICC site, who seeded England as Number 1 ? and Why ?
