Hindi Cinema Discussion

ok, so i was out of touch with hindi cinema ever since i came to chennai. so wanted to catch up with it.
watched the following movies in a span of 3 days...and yes, its no surprise that am jobless. :p

Housefull.
Verdict : Tries too hard to be funny but fails big time. except for a couple of
scenes, its a big dud. Also, it has probably the worst climax in a movie.
Rating : 2/5

I Hate Luv Storys.
Verdict : the movie starts by mocking the famous bolly rom-coms but follows
the same traditional route and ends up mocking itself. the end result is pretty
"FUGLY".
Rating : 1.5/5

Aisha.
Verdict : if you thought IHLS is cheesy and predictable, then think again.
surprisingly, this movie is worse than IHLS. what abhay deol saw in this movie will always remain a mystery to me.
Rating : 1/5

Ishqiya.
Verdict : a short story dragged out as a 2hr movie. the narration is really poor & Confusing for the most parts and so is the climax. few positives would be the chemistry between nasseeruddin shah and warsi, the dialogues and some really likeable and interesting characters.
Rating : 2/5

Kites.
Verdict : SHOCKINGLY BORING! this is a classic example of a hindi film after "BLUE" failing big time to capitalize on the budget,
locations etc. a wafer-thin plot with a boring screenplay is a surefire way to flop your film and the director does a great job at it.barbara mori looks pretty old and haggard. again, what brett ratner saw in this movie will remain a mystery to me. only positive in this movie is hrithik. he dances like CRAZY and acts really well.
Rating : 1.5/5

Rajneeti.
Verdict : excellent political mindgames and casting. obviously inspired from Godfather and the mahabharatha but it shines
big time in the screenplay and dialogues. Wonderful performances by the lead actors, everyone fits in their role to the T.
although, it really dragged towards the end, it still is a great movie. i dont know if this is good or bad, but you never really root for a character. everyone is really grey and evil in their own way. but definitely one of the better movies of 2010. good work Mr.Jha.
Rating : 3.5/5

Love, Sex Aur Dhoka.
Verdict : a 2 hour long MMS being presented as a movie. man it was sooo borring i wanted to pull my eyes out.
not to mention the MMS / CCTV style of shooting with bad lighting, shaky camera and crap quality gave me a bad headache.
even the so-called "BOLD" "SEX" scenes are blurred and look crappier than a very low-grade mallu Porn.and since it contains all newbies..the acting is "AVERAGE" at best ! overall - BAKWAAS!!
Rating : 1/5

Once Upon a Time In Mumbai.
Verdict : a very well made film. Powerful perfomance by Devgan. Surprisingly, even Hashmi and hooda give good performances.
the film moves at a good pace and is pretty absorbing. one major negative i would say is the "X" factor is missing.
that is,it does not have the deadliness, the edginess or the intense rivalry as seen in movies like "Company" , "Shootout at lokhandwala"
etc. i believe this is key when making a gangster film. but still it stands on its feet and delivers well.
Rating : 3.25/5

Peepli Live.

Verdict : i really dont understand why the critics and the media went gaga over this film. yes, it has its moments
with the poor condition of the farmers & how the media manipulates to its benefit but nothing special nor was i emotionally connected with the narration or the characters. plus, it gets VERY BORING after the initial hour.
Rating : 2/5

Watched Dabangg and it was Ok. Some good punchlines from Robinhood and is a complete Masala. Your ticket and other eatables price will not go waste.

Just came back after watching Dabangg, I'll agree with Sid on it being okay. The movie is a mix of positives and negatives. The main negative being that the film has no storyline in particular. It's funny in bits and thus ends up being a decent flick. Definitely not a blockbuster though.

I'd give it 2.8/5.

Its turning out to be a blockbuster though. Seems it has shattered the opening record of 3 Idiots. And seeing the reviews, I am confident this movie is another 'Wanted' for Salman at the box office (maybe even bigger)

Yeah. Some of my friends who watched the movie are loving it. :)

It will be bigger than Wanted but nothing special to make it one of best selling Sallu movies even.

Watched Dabangg last night and TBH didn't like it at all.I just can't understand people are giving it a 3/5.It was a 'Wanted-style','Superman Salman Khan' kind of a movie with no storyline at all (Wanted is a lot a lot better than this). You can always predict whats gonna happen next. The direction was very very poor! (I have watched many shitty directed movies but this was worst than all of them). Everything seems to happen so quickly that sometimes you don't get what has happened.Didn't like the music too (except 'Munni Badnaam' song).Shrutti or whatever is the name of that girl was pretty bad too.
I will give it a 1/5.

I watched Dabangg yesterday. Unlike some of the other guys above, I liked it. Surely better than Wanted. I can easily give it 3 on 5.

@DR9: Here name is Sonakshi Sinha! :)

Watched Dabaang to witness the hype.. average movie. Sallu bhai was excellent, lot of south films kinda action.. movi got record breaking opening the only reason 3 public holidays in a row..

4/5 songs (Tere mast mast, Hamka peeni hai, Munni) :clap

2.5/5 overall

The stunt director is Vijayan, a Tamil guy. He has choreographed lot of action in Tamil films. Most of the stunts, I hear, are the ones already used in South films.

I'll be honest and say that the stunts/action (whatever you call it!) in Dabangg, or for that matter in any South Indian movie is pathetic to say the least. I mean you "touch" one guy and he goes flying into the orbit! If this is what you call "stunts/action", I'm afraid you need to grow up. Big time!

Haha Dabaang had the matrix effect :p (the glass one )

i enjoy watching such stunts actions whatever, especially if it's Rajinikanth:banana2
