Hindi Cinema Discussion

Are you watching it in Hindi? Wont be the same. In Tamil you preserve the certain local Rajni style dialogue that you just dont find anywhere else.

Of course not! Am I mad to watch a Rajni film in a dubbed language when I am a born Tamilian? I am watching it tomorrow in Tamil. Terribly excited! Rave reviews pouring from all over. Even my friends and their families loved the film and Rajni.

Frenzy for Rajni and 'Robot' in Mumbai

Looks like the climax is the best part of the film. A film with a good climax always does well.

Robot has opened to a very weak opening in the north, especially Delhi. Whereas, Anjanna Anjanni has got a very good response.

PVR Ambience (the biggest multiplex in the NCR) is running 10 shows of Anjanna Anjanni and 3 shows of Robot (per day). For the weekend, around 80% of the seats have been booked in all the shows for AA. On the other hand, only a mere 10% of the seats have been booked for Robot (in spite of it having only 3 shows per day, compared to the 10 of AA). Even a low budget movie like Kichidi has got a better opening than Robot.

I've booked my tickets for AA, but I am afraid that it may not be that good. I'll write a small review when I return.

Nice to see that you are very happy with that.:sarcasm

Robot has got the best critical acclaim from all of your famed critics in the media. Anjaana Anjaani has been criticised by a few of those critics. I am not talking about the Tamil version of Robot. I am talking about the Hindi dubbed version. I cant see any other reason for the multiplex audience not coming in to watch Robot other than that they are REGIONALLY BIASED (in my opinion)! Whichever South actor had acted in Robot (including the younger lot), people in the North would have treated it the same way (well even worser) they are doing so right now. Had Shahrukh been part of Robot (as originally planned), it would have seen big collections.

Sad that the Tamil population is just 10% of the Hindi speaking population. Bollywood's only advantage is that they cater to such a wide and huge audience who speak the language. I guess even Ranbir and Priyanka knows who is the winner!

Haha! I ain't one of those guys who start "howling, whistling and dancing in front of the screens", nor do I keep on changing my avatar and signature when every other movie releases. Neither do I go on posting the links to various reviews a movie has got. Basically, I don't give a rat's ████ to how a movie performs at the big screen.

I simply don't like the fact i.e how you go "crazy" when a movie with some relation to South is about to release (Raavan and now Robot), and thus felt the need to voice the "truth" in my last post.

I am back after watching Anjanna Anjanni, but as expected, the movie didn't manage to impress me. It rather felt flat. It was highly boring throughout and the storyline was way too predictable. Some of the jokes were funny, but about 90% were included in the promos. So, there was nothing new to laugh at!

My rating: 1/5

Its your wish that you dont do it. But those who do it, they are not wrong if they do it. I dont care what someone thinks of me changing my avatar or signature whenever a movie comes. They are an expression of your tastes, and I am a person who makes my taste known to everyone among whom I am around with. I am not going to change just because someone doesnt like it. If I like it, I DO IT!

I am not just a South fanatic. I am a major Bollywood fan too. I have enjoyed Aamir, SRK, Salman (few films), Abhishek, Hrithik, etc. I got excited for Raavan and Robot because they came from big directors and their content promised to be good. If it wasnt the case, I wont be rooting for those films. I am not too excited about Raktha Charitra though I am a big fan of one of the heroes in the film (Surya, he is a star Tamil actor and the original guy behind Ghajini). And people in Mumbai have gone crazy over Endhiran/Robot. I am not a peculiar case. Watch the scenes/stills on Rediff and other sites. Regarding the multiplex audience in the North, my opinion stands. If they dont come out to watch the film despite the reviews, they must be regionally biased.

Robot Review

Robot shows to the world what a beautiful craftsman Shankar is! ABSOLUTELY ENTHRALLING AND JAW DROPPING film! He let his imagination run wild. Sad that he is in a place where we are restricted in displaying our imaginations due to budget and market constaints. Shankar with a higher budget would have achieved far bigger things. Dont wish to spoil the fun for people who didnt watch it, but remember, chances are YOU WILL HAVE YOUR MOUTHS OPEN during the climax encounter between hero and villian. The crowd was so silent today because this is not a typical Rajni movie with the styles and punches, but it was so gripping that people clapped out of appreciation and in the end, it got a standing ovation. No whistling, no howling (except for when Rajni appeared and for one gimmick he did) and no dancing today.

I was completely sucked into the entertainment that my mind was not allowed to find flaws. Maybe second time when I watch it, I would do that. But Rajnikanth - THE MAN! As the villian and hero, he was just outstanding! Ash was beautiful and gorgeous (she did some super dance steps in 'Naina Miley' song). Rahman's BGM was OK though not earth shattering, also the film didnt need great BGM, it just needed decent BGM. Shankar stands tall after all this ends.

Rating: 4.5/5

Would love to give full marks, but let me be practical.

I just read in the other thread that you couldn't properly sleep due the excitement, so now I know how it works for you! :sarcasm

Oh, shut up! I've had some very dear friends from the South, but thanks to the almighty that I haven't come across a person like you in the real life. I mean, someone says that the action in Dabangg was very good and then immediately after that you show up and say that the action director for that film is from SOUTH. When Harbhajan takes five wickets, have you seen me say, or for that matter anyone from the North say that "He is the Champ! He comes from NORTH". And, don't get me started on how you went about when Raavan and just recently, Robot were about to release.

No they aren't regionally biased. Rather, we don't really like such movies. For instance, you consider Shivaji to be one of the better movies, whereas I consider it to be pathetic. As you said yourself, "tastes differ". I am okay with Robot doing good business in South, and getting good reviews from every other critic. But what annoys me is that, you going crazy over it.

Yes because of only Rajnikanth. You have to be a South Indian to experience that kind of excitement. Anyways, there are people in this world who are passionate about certain things. Each one would be excited about something more than the other. I am passionate about films. Thats why you see me discussing films a lot here. I love Tamil films, I love Indian films. Thats me!

You dont understand why someone like me would comment like that? South population must be 30-40% of what the North population is? We are among the minority as far as the audience goes. Bollywood has the majority of the audience. So when a guy from our land comes and does well in Bollywood, its natural tendency to lift your chest up and say "He is our guy". When Rahman won the Oscars, even the North Indians said "He is an Indian and he won the Oscars". You feel proud that someone from your region has done it and its a hit.

Believe me, I am not the only one going crazy about it. There are tons of people like me out there. In fact I go crazy only about certain people's films. There is a big crowd out there that goes crazy about all films. Cinema is a passion in India, more so in the South. Just like cricket is a passion for India.

In the case of Robot, the reviews clearly say its not the typical Rajnikanth film (like how Sivaji was). This is a sci-fi action film, whereas Sivaji was a full on South style masala film. And your own reviewers praise the film and clearly define what kind of film it is. Thats why I said if people still dont come out and watch it, they are regionally biased. For instance, in the South, if we hear a film is good, we go out to watch it. Films or Shahrukh, Aamir, Hrithik all do very well here because most of them have been good.

P.s: Chetan, well I am here!:yes:laugh I am sure Pranav is not taking it personally. We often have these kinds of arguments over films in orkut.

That's the whole point of the discussion. We are all INDIANS. I understand that the South Indians are at minority, but still there is no need to say "He's from the South" when a man does well. Even the Muslims are at minority in India. Again, do you see anyone of them saying "Zahir Khan is the best bowler in India. He's a Muslim!" when Zahir Khan performs well? I myself don't like the South and North funda. We are only differentiating ourselves just for the sake of doing so.

Nah, I ain't taking it personally. I am rather trying to have a healthy debate sort of a thing. :)

You didnt see my reaction when 'My Name is Khan' was about to release. I changed my avatar and signature here in PC for it. I had a 3 Idiots avatar and sig when that came out. Just live with these types of movie buffs, Pranav. Not all in this world can be the same as you. Some will react differently, some will react similar. I am obviously not from the same school of thought as you come from.
