Yes, but that doesnt counter to my above post that the collections of all three versions put together has beaten 3 Idiots. Robot (Hindi) is the biggest hit for a dubbed film in Bollywood (no other dubbed film has collected as much as Robot has). Its business is around 30 crores for the Hindi version and they purchased the Hindi version for around 25 crores. And a film's collection is not all about doing well only in the North. The film in question here has a Tamil and Telugu version thats doing as well as the big Hindi films.

In the South, Endhiran and Robo (Telugu) is expected to run to really good response for more than 3 months. This is not a remake, its the same film in different dubbed versions. So basically its one single film and so 3 Idiots is at no disadvantage of having to compete with 3 films. I dont think dubbing 3 Idiots to Tamil and Telugu would have made any difference in the South market.

When its Rajni money does not matter. Even Sivaji was super duper bumper money grosser.

Yeah but Sivaji did not beat the biggest hits of Bollywood at that time. This time, Robot and its Tamil/Telugu versions together has beaten India's biggest hit till now, 3 Idiots.

If you have over 30 shows per day in a multiplex and charge 1500Rs per ticket,
you'll obviously be the top grosser.

How do you make it sound so easy, jk? People must be willing to shell out those bucks to watch the film in the theatre. Inspite of those balloning prices, the film has been housefull for most of the days. What you said is not an argument against Endhiran/Robot/Robo nor is it an argument in favor of 3 Idiots/Dabaang? Would it have been housefull if 3 Idiots opened to ticket prices of 1500rs/- in the first week? I highly doubt so. Same with Dabaang (in fact they dont have the guts to open Dabaang to ticket prices of 1500/-).

thats my point. if your so sure about the film being housefull even after 3 weeks and if you believe in your film, why price it so exorbitantly ?

i can even understand the reason behind keeping 30+ shows everyday but the pricing for me is just not acceptable.

and if am not wrong, the ticket prices for the international market were worse
than india.

the average person who takes his family to watch enthiran / robot cannot watch another movie that month simply because he cannot afford it.
its almost like paying for 3 films at once but getting to watch only 1.

JK - the business model for Indian films has changed drastically. Right now, its all about cashing in in the first week collections of a film. After that, the collections of a film decline rapidly (due to more available options to the audience, pirated DVD/VCD's available, etc). So right now, its about making the bucks as soon as you can. When you know you can make big bucks without seeing decline in audience, why wont you do it? In this case, this movie is seeing audience inspite of those exorbitantly high rates. So they have made a killing.

If someone cant afford that price of a ticket, they can very well wait and watch the film at a later time.

I don't know where it has changed so drasitcally mate, but here in Delhi I watch the newest releases, first day shows, at the same price that every other movie comes. 190-250 bucks at max. Watched Robot in 210 bucks.

@ Kshitiz: I mean the business model years back used to be on running the movie for more days and that would translate into more money and that was the criteria for success. Now the model is such that, the big business happens in the first week. Considering the hype Robot had all over the country, it sustained inspite of those big ticket prices. People paid 1500/- to watch the film. We are not arguing on if that ticket price is justified or not. I am arguing that it cannot be used as an argument in favor of 3 Idiots or Dabaang against Robot/Endhiran/Robo.
