IMO anyway. I've got reservations bout how he'll go but I reckon today's innings will get him a spot. 177 off 178 balls for those that haven't heard the news. Will be enough to get a spot ahead of Symonds should they play MacGill as Symonds won't be needed as a bowler then and Hodge I think looked at as a better batter than Symonds.

Hodge already had the spot. Think about it.
5 bowlers and Symonds a batsmen.
5 bowlers and Hodge a batsmen.
Symonds bowling is clearly not needed so it would come down to batting ability and Hodge has that.
Any other possible combination leads to both Symonds and Hodge in the side.

I would have thought Symonds would get a gig ahead of a proposed 5 bowler attack.

Drop CLARKE bring hodge for clarke and have macgill in the team!

This is definitely good news. Australia hasn't had 2 Victorians in a test team for a long time now.

Could be three before long. One would think Dave Hussey would be the next middle order batsman in line for a go. And that could be soon if Clarke keeps going the way he is. Although he isn't Victorian by birth.

Nope, D.Hussey is just like M.Hussey played cricket at the wrong time, AUS arent going to select and players over 26 anymore i don't think!

They just selected Hodge who is 30! The latest bunch of players have proved you can play until you are 34 or 35 now so I think gone are the days when Aus players will debut i ntheir early 20s. We're going to see a lot more late twenties debuts and these players could conceivably play 60 or 70 tests before they reach 35 and are phased out or retire. I think D Hussey, M Hussey and others closer to 30 are still very much in the frame over the next few years.

I hope clarke gets dropped after making 12

You can hope all you like. He'll see this series out I reckon. If he doesn't make any runs though I reckon his spot could be in jeopardy for the SA series though.

Thats how I see it. They won't drop him before this series.

my combo is
1. hayden
2. hussey
3. ponting
4.hodge
5. symonds
6.clarke
7. gilly
8. warne
9. lee
10.mcgrath
11. mcgill

you may only have 2 pace bowles but hussey can bowl mediums and so can symonds
