How about controlling the length through RS where as line through face buttons?

Why can't we have right stick control for length as well as the early indicator while batting?... Can't the colour of the indicator just reflect the "zone" being aimed for, i.e. which face button the bowler used, and where it pitches within that zone be determined by release timing? Using LB/RB doesn't change the colour of it anyway.

I guess there must be reasons why that can't be done, but I have to say I'm really not a fan of the current mechanics at all. It's added more buttons (and confusion, seen people still not sure how/when the LB/RB modifiers work) and reduced variation/realism. DBC14's bowling was fantastic in terms of controls and mechanics, I felt it was a great base to work from... But the way it's been reworked IMO actually puts it behind the old cricket games with pitch markers... In BLC99 the marker would be bigger depending on the quality of bowler (so you can't always hit an identical length/line) and could be hard to control as it moved/slid around quickly.

Yes, controlling length of the delivery using Right Stick would be great instead of using face buttons but IMO the face button mechanism was introduced to support showing the length indicator earlier to avoid pre-meditation. If the length is controlled solely by the Right Stick it would be difficult to show the length indicator earlier so there are the following two options available...

1. Use Right Stick to control length a la DBC 14 but don't have ability to see the length indicator earlier resulting in pre-meditation.
2. Use face buttons to control the length along with R1 & L1 but have the ability to view length indicator early so as to avoid pre-meditation.

I don't know about you guys but I would take option 2 any day over option 1. Pre-meditation was one of the main pain points in DBC 14 and if face button controlled length of the delivery can solve the issue in DBC 17, I'm all for it.

I don't think that's right. Even in DBC 14, we could use face buttons for length in addition to RS. They can continue using the same mechanism in DBC 17 and in any case the length indicator can show colour based on the face-button selected (so if it is Red, it will be short but how short can still be set using RS which wouldn't impact length indicator)

If it is possible to go back to having timing influence length, I'd also like to return to having 3 buttons for length (short, good, full) and do away with the X button for yorker length. Having each length section be bigger means more variation due to timing, and I don't think a blue indicator for yorker length is necessary for the batsman, yellow for full would do imo.

It was the best control system, but until Franco came along the overall experience was dispiriting and borderline poor. No new ball as a weapon, no AI edges, no pitch variation.

In 17 all of those things are there and the result is a much better experience I'm total, even if the control element is slightly less satisfying.

Comparing DBC14 plus hack vs DBC17 ootb is disingenuous.

A dbc14 control of length plus the extras dbc17 has given with the edges etc. would be holy grail territory. Sadly even Franco didn't really give us the same feeling of pitch variation and new ball as 17 gives.

I didn't compare the 14 hack to 17 vanilla I said the hack fixed the problems regarding the edges but the actual bowling was much better in 14. The overall experience cannot be better in 17 when factoring in a poorer control system and field placings that don't stay how you want them.

After bowling for 100+ overs total and 86 or so in the 4th innings I didn't notice any pitch variation or deterioration and the AI knows exactly which ball to leave and which to defend. I found the bowling experience to be worse the longer I played whereas the batting got much better the longer I played.
