ICC Awards 2009 nominees list announced

Its not his fault he is playing on roads. :p

I know it will probably go to Strauss, still Samarweera has been more prolific. Don't forget he had 1 less match in Pakistan where he was due for another double ton.

It's from an Indian newspaper--there're bound to be mistakes (including that Graham Onions nomination?). Cricinfo hasn't had it up yet, so it may just be the imagination of the editors of that paper.

Nevermind, Cricinfo has Onions in there, too.

It's up on the BBC Sport website as well:

England captain Andrew Strauss and fast bowler Graham Onions have both been nominated for the International Cricket Council cricketer of the year award.

The pair starred in the victorious Ashes-winning side this summer.

Also among the list of 14 nominees are Australia pace bowler Mitchell Johnson, Sri Lanka batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan and India skipper Mahendra Dhoni.

BBC SPORT | Cricket | Strauss & Onions up for ICC award

It hasn't been put onto the ICC website yet, or Cricinfo as you mentioned. So I wouldn't take these nomination lists as the confirmed lists, although they may well be. Onions nominated for Cricketer of The Year is certainly a strange one.

Edit: Oh yeh, on Cricinfo now. Just have to presume the ICC were desperate for names, surely you can't win an ICC award based on form in County Cricket, a few wickets against a dejected Windies and then 1 decent spell against the Aussies? =/ Razzak's a strange one as well, especially considering the ban on his action was only lifted in March.

I think its time you start giving respect to Indian news agency. ;)

To have Mitchell Johnson & Peter Siddle, of all ridiculous (or "great", as they call them ONLY in Australia) bowlers from Australia, to be nominated in not one but two categories is a bit of a joke really & quite hilarious. Both are extremely overrated and can't even do well against teams like Scotland. :laugh

Onions' nomination is a shocker . Guptill is 12 matches old and too early to nominate. To see Jesse Ryder being nominated in the "Emerging Player" category despite making his LOI debut in Feb 2008 is beyond general logic and my understanding.

Also, to see VERY FEW Aussie batsmen being nominated in the Entire list goes on to highlight how "spectacular" & "champion-like" they are :rtfl

My picks-
Cricketer of the Year: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (IND)
Test Player of the Year: Gautam Gambhir (IND)
ODI Player of the Year: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (IND)/Yuvi Singh (IND)
Emerging Player: Philip Hughes (AUS)/Amit Mishra (IND)
Associate and Affiliate Player of the Year: Any Irishman
Twenty20 International Performance of the Year: Shahid Afridi (PAK)
Women's Cricketer of the Year: Charlotte Edwards (ENG)
Umpire of the Year: Rudi Koertzen (Its shocking to see him missing from the list just coz the Aussies didn't like him)/Simon Taufel (AUS)

PS - It is awesome to see our media faster in reporting than the ICC & Cricinfo :hpraise
