Match Review Committee
Andre Nel is facing the match review committee at the moment. We will now join the committee to hear there verdict.

Nel will have to tone down the agro

Match Review Committee said:
Andre Nel has been seen by the Match Review Committee as bringing the game into disrepute and disrespecting the opposition. As a consequence he will serve a one match ban effective as of the 2nd match in the Castle Lager series and also a 50% fine of his match fee.

So Nel will be on the sidelines for the next test match and also a docking of his pay. It will be interesting to see how he deals with this throughout the rest of the 1st test which he is involved with.

Binga?s Unplayable Delivery!

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

It?s a beautiful day in Cape Town the sun is shining and the South Africans have started with a clean slate and are ready to knuckle down and fight back into the match through Rudolph and Prince. That was until Brett Lee came steaming in and served up an unplayable delivery which pitched on off leaving Rudolph with a false sense of security attempting a back foot drive through the covers the ball cut back sharply and cannoned into pad leaving the South African dead in the water and Darrel Hair said thanks for coming.

Brett Lee is in the best form of his career in this innings and has 3/2

What a ball from Brett Lee! It doesn?t matter if your on 0 or 100 that ball will take any mans wicket sorry Don Bradman but that would of sent the man with the 99 average on his way. That leaves South Africa in a lot of trouble as Boucher who is the last of the recognized men with the willow. This game is getting away from South Africa very quickly now and they need something special to save any hope.

Even Darrel Hair couldn't believe the ball

South Africa 5/76

Rudolph 0(10)

Bowled Bing :D

Very life like, especially that last shot of the ball hitting his pad

Clark Hit?s Timber

With Aswell Prince looking the goods it was up to Boucher to play the support role and that?s what he did. It took a great delivery from Stuart Clark to knock Boucher?s house down and reduce to South Africans to 6 down. Another man bowled playing on the back foot as if they have learned nothing. Poor batting here by the home side.

Boucher another victim playing over the top of the pill

You would think South Africa needs at leased another hundred runs to even have some kind of chance and they would still need to bowl out of there skin. This game is getting very one sided on the morning of day 3.

South Africa 6/112

Warney Has His Say

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

You wouldn?t normally expect Shane Warne to be brought on after 43 overs had already been bowled but it is clearly a seamers wicket at the Newlands. Ponting gave the ball to his champion leg spinner and said ?Let?s see what you can do?.

Pollock forced to drive by Warne and is clean bowled

5 overs later Warne had Pollock clean bowled as a ripping leg spinner span back past the fast bowler. As long as Prince is at the crease for South Africa they have a chance but he would need a big hundred to save his country.

South Africa 7/131

Pollock 5(35)

Lee 3/8

Doesn't matter if Prince is there, The SAF tail is exposed. Brilliant bowling! :clap :D

Pitch Doctoring No Match For Warne

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

Ashwell Prince reached a valuable 50 for South Africa but the job is only half done for his team.

A stand alone innings from Prince reaches 50

A loss of concentration from Prince sore Shane Warne claim his wicket. It doesn?t take long for these Australian?s to catch up with you and the champion leg spinner is doing amazingly on a pitch doctored against him. 2 in the bag for Warne as he got the flipper through Prince and onto off stump.

Got Him...Prince gone and South Africa in real trouble

South Africa 8/144

Broken Tail

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

Ntini Showed just why he is a tailender when he missed a straight one pitching short of a length and it crashed into the timberwork. Gone for a duck which brings Nel to the crease and Brett Lee with 4.

Ntini knocked over easily for zero

Nel was subject to a few comments from the Australians and also a few short balls to get his going. He managed a few runs off the edge of the bat but it didn?t take long for Lee to bag a memorable 5 wicket haul as Ponting took a solid catch at second slip. Lee has the last laugh after copping it from Nel yesterday and the send off was a welcome reward for Nel.

Nel was buttered up and then dismissed by Lee

That's it for South Africa as they concede a big lead to one of the best bowling performances by an Australian side. Australia now is in the drivers seat having taken 6 wickets in this session as the umpires call lunch. When Langer and Hayden come out they will be looking to build on their lead of 156. You would think 300 would be enough o win on this pitch so Australia can really punish the Proteas here with a big lead and think about declaring tomorrow.

Australia Back Out And On Top

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

Langer and Hayden make there way out to the middle and following them is a miserable South African team who needs a few early wickets to have any chance in this game. The experts in the commentary box say if Australia get anything over 150 which would make a lead of 300 they are home.

A lot of South Africa?s fait rest in the hands of it?s opening bowlers and Ntini in particular because he has been the in form bowler for his country.

Hayden Triggered After Solid Start

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

The early breakthrough didn?t come for South Africa which meant hanging heads all-round for Graeme Smith?s men. After the openers had finished there shift Jacques Kallis was brought into the attack and it was a hell of a start with a wicket first ball.

Bucknor gives Hayden out LBW despite doubt

Another controversial decision from Bucknor with Kallis bowling around the wicket to the left handed Hayden and the argument could be made that the big fella was hit outside the line and even missing leg stump with the big stride forward. None the less Hayden has to go and Australia have lost there first in what?s shaping up to be Bucknors last umpiring role.

Australia 1/56

Done By The Deck

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

South Africa still has the wood over Ponting as they have gotten rid of him early again. This time Andre ?agro? Nel went through the skipper and knocked back off stump. Dartfish showed the path the little red pill took as it cut sharply into Ponting leaving him dead for all money.

Dartfish shows the downfall of Ponting

There still wont be any punters backing South Africa to win here but it?s a nice wicket to have in the bag with tea just around the corner on day 3. Damien Martyn the first innings centurion is in now.

Martyn in with confidence

Australia 2/84

Take It To Tea

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

Justin Langer is accompanied back to the pavilion by Damien Martyn as umpire makes a rare good decision in taking the players off for tea. Unfortunatly for South Africa it?s not there ball game at the moment and they will need a big final session on day 3 to get back in this one.

Australia 2/96
Tea ? Day 3

Langer 42(92)*
Martyn 5(11)*

Pollock 0/20

Langer Stands In Proteas Way

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

Just the second time Justin Langer has reached 50 in this championship and last time he did it he made a hundred. The South Africans hopes of a comeback diminish with every run of the little fellas bat.

Langer reaches a watchful half century

Damien Martyn also has a job to do with Langer as the lead for Australia goes past 250. Australia will be looking to declare sometime tomorrow with an unassailable lead.

Australia 2/96
