ICC Champions Trophy 2009

New Zealand one-day squad: Daniel Vettori (capt), Brent Arnel, Shane Bond, Neil Broom, Ian Butler, Craig Cumming, Brendon Diamanti, Grant Elliott, James Franklin, Peter Fulton, Martin Guptill, Gareth Hopkins, Jamie How, Peter Ingram, Brendon McCullum (wk), Nathan McCullum, Peter McGlashan (wk), James Marshall, Chris Martin, Kyle Mills, Iain O'Brien, Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Aaron Redmond, Jesse Ryder, Shanan Stewart, Tim Southee, Scott Styris, Ross Taylor, Daryl Tuffey.

A few new names and a few recalls there but in all honesty the chances of those guys getting picked is slim to none. The guys picked on the Sri Lanka tour will be the most likely to get into the final 15.

Jesse Ryder
Martin Guptill
Neil Broom
Grant Elliott
Ross Taylor
Jacob Oram
Brendon McCullum (wk)
Nathan McCullum
Daniel Vettori (capt)
Kyle Mills
Shane Bond
Ian Butler (12th man)

Good squad I think.

I'd say Peter Ingram might have a chance to make the final 15, he's been great over the last 1-2 years. Plus he had a really good run against the Lions earlier this season

1.Brendon McCullum
2.Jesse Ryder
3.Martin Guptill
4.Ross Taylor
5.Grant Elliott
6.Jacob Oram
7.James Franklin
8.Daniel Vettori
9.Nathan McCullum
10.Kyle Mills
11.Shane Bond

12.Ian Butler
13.Peter McGlashan
14.Peter Ingram
15.Neil Broom

We will see something like that

Has Butler not performed well enough since he came back? He's been our best bowler lately.

Because he's not in my team...

Mills is above Butler in my pecking order, and so is Shane Bond. Franklin's more in the team as a batsmen coming in at seven who I feel would do pretty much the same job as Butler with the ball. Tbh Butler could come in for McCullum though, but since this is being played in the Sub-Continent I thought he would be the best option.

This i feel, would be the ideal line up for the Blackcaps:
1.Ryder
2.McCullum
3.Guptill
4.Taylor
5.Oram
6.McGlashan (Deserves more chances:))
7.Franklin
8.Vettori
9.Mills
10.Butler
11.Bond (If he doesn't get injured in SL:p)

No Grant Elliott?

Oram isn't good enough to bat in the top five. And with McCullum playing we don't need to play McGlashan.

Zaheer out of cricket till the year end ^ :(

Sehwag is advised rest till September :(

:facepalm

Indian squad to be announced tomorrow (Sunday)

Man our bowling will be in hands of Nehra and Ishant.
:rtfl
Better not send team as well. Give some rest before Aussies come.

Dravid has been selected to strenghtn the middle order, plus he can handle the bounce better then other new player (recently we saw how the Indian players (who had not played any International Cricket)who were in IPL-2 couldnt play/handle the bounce well)..He is a quality player, lets see whether he is selected in final squad...

Lets hope he get a chance,he is definitely a quality player,he might also get a chance in upcoming SL tour...He has'nt played any ODI after Oct 2007..

Dravid looks set for an ODI return, which is very good news. I guess Rohit Sharma might be dispensed with, which should be the deserving decision because he has not taken up the chances and has looked inept in everything apart from T20's (where he started off well, but then again lost steam).

This will be a crucial time for Ishant. If he doesnt step up in the shorter format, his chances in the longer format could also suffer and eventually he will be dumped for more promising bowlers. If you have to be India's spearhead, you have to excel in all formats. RP Singh should play most of the games due to his liking for SA conditions. I would be tempted to pick Sudeep Tyagi instead of Munaf Patel because Sudeep is an unknown quantity at international level, and also anyone can be better than Munaf in terms of fitness and on-field attitude. Nehra will pick himself after picking some wickets, but Ishant and RP Singh will be the top two fast bowlers.

Keen to see Sachin and Dravid join hands again on the pitch. Long time since that happened! These guys are indispensable seniors and truly legends. We miss them so much. Their period has been the true golden period for Indian cricket.
