I'd really love to know what exactly Michael Clarke did across formats to win the Cricketer of the Year award. I have no argument with him winning the Test Cricketer of the Year but he's had zero impact in any other format, and skipped the most high-profile ODI tournament of the year due to injury. If the Cricketer of the Year is supposed to go to players with great records across formats, then Amla or Sangakkara are probably much better choices.

And now there's plenty of fodder for all those conspiracy theorists that claims that Australia, England, and India are the only countries who get properly represented at the awards.

Exactly.. How did he become the Test captain of the world Test team 2013 ?
He lost the series against India by 0-4 and then lost the ashes in England..
Cook could have been a good option..

Why not Dhoni(India) and Ajmal(Pakistan) ?

I don't pay attention to these awards anymore, it's disturbing when you can say that FIFA has more integrity than an organisation but that's the case with the ICC :facepalm

I don't really get a lot of these. what does emerging player even mean in this context?

pujara was a completely established player by 2012, indeed, he scored more 100s and runs in 2012 than he did this year.

The people who chose the players were certainly high on potatoes.

Pujara for emerging player ? You kidding me ?!?

What did Clarke do in ODIs and T20s to warrant a Cricketer of the Year award ?!
