Big Wicket! "'Miller Time!'... 'Maxwell Show!'... 'Buttler Show!'...' Pandya Time!'...' Russelmania!' ..'Gayle Show!'...Sadly those big hitters havent entertained us this tournament with quick 100s or 50s. "

Then you'd also want India to lose to Bangladesh?

Basically I want England to win to let India have a better shot at the top spot and if India loses to Bangladesh then it nullifies the effect of England beating Australia.

Pretty daft call to bowl first by England!

It was a right decision to bowl first. The skies were Overcast and the pitch had fair bit of grass cover. Even Michael Clarke said the team winning the toss should bowl first. Even Australia wanted to bowl first on this surface

Because he plays with no brain, always has his entire career.

TBH the team have given him the role to be aggressive so he has to go for everything he gets. And in last 6 months Maxwell has shown dramatic improvement in his career and is always looking to improve on it. And what Maxwell was trying to do was to run the ball down to third man for a single but unfortunately got an edge.

Buttler has definitely entertained. Pandya has done the business too. I honestly knew Russell wouldn't perform and the less said about Miller the better.

The way this squad has been picked has been extremely disappointing regardless of the position we are in. Why are there 5 pace bowlers?
In the 15? There was no chance of Richardson playing if Stoinis was fit. The 3rd seamer was always going to be Behrendorff or Coulter-Nile. Easily could've brought a seam bowling all rounder like MMarsh or Michael Neser in place of Kane.

Smith 100% has to bat at 3, made no sense to pick 4 openers in Shaun,Warner,Finch and Khawaja then try to slot one into a position that Smith is used to batting at in white ball cricket.

Not enough middle order batsman have been picked so Carey should be batting at 5. Definitely missed the trick in not picking Handscomb and Matthew Wade to bat in the middle who is currently in the form of his life.

Maxwell batting have been a bit disappointing in this world cup so far.

He is probably playing two spots higher in the current lineup.

On the other hand, he hasn’t really wasted a lot of balls in his quickfire cameos though. Sure, you could have him bat at 7 but he would probably score around a similar rate and score those quick 20s or 30s at best. Carey relies a lot more on placement and timing than power, Stoinis is a terrible rotator of strike and has also been in extremely poor form with the bat. These aren’t really players you would want to send in so that they settle and can go big at the end.

If Maxi does convert those cameos into a score of around 70 at his pace, he would have single handedly pushed Australia from the par score to probably 50-60 runs above par quite easily. It’s understandable why he’s currently playing at 5 and as long as he doesn’t waste much deliveries for his cameos either, I would keep him there.

I do wish someone managed to unlock Maxi’s full potential though, he has got every shot in the locker and times the ball so well in addition to how easily he rotates strike. Maybe tests were his best format and he has been not utilized there in favour of ODIs which has always been his weakest format, like a reverse Shaun Marsh.

If they want Maxwell to play those 10 ball 40s, Carey MUST bat higher. No point batting Maxwell at 5, gets a 10 ball 40 then leaves Carey to try to patch everything with another 15 overs remaining All I am seeing is Carey being wasted at the end, give him some time to bat, he has proven that he can build a foundation for the back end of the innings, these final 10 overs Maxwell could be hitting out the park.

You do know that Buttler has already scored a century which is in itself quite rare for a number 6 batsman right? Most of the players you’ve listed might be scoring those quick 50s in T20s but are probably not going to be batting long enough to score big and if they do, the top order must have failed spectacularly which is never a good thing for any side in a match. :p
