Scotland Breeze Past Ireland

Sharjah -- In the 3rd match of the 2007 World Cricket League, Scotland easily beat rivals Ireland by 7 wickets. After winning the toss, Scotland put the Irish in to bat and this didnt look like such a good idea at first as Ireland put on 62 for the first wicket. After reaching 142/3 Ireland lost the last 7 wickets for only 74 runs. Scotland bowled well with both Brown and Beukes taking 3 wickets each. Eventually, Ireland reached a low 216 all out in 45.3 overs. It was definitely a low total as the pitch was made for batsman, but only one Irishman was able to reach 40 It seems as though Scotland knew something we didnt as they were able to use the pitch in their favor. After the break, Scotland started on their target of 217 and never looked like losing. Coetzer and Haynes shared a massive 161 for the opening wicket, and made it so that the batsman after them would have no pressure to reach the target. Man of the Match Haynes reached 80 before balled by a snorter by Gillespie. Scotland reached their total with the final ball of the 48th over and won convincingly by 7 wickets.

Looking at the points table, after all 6 teams have played their opening matches, the table looks just as we expected it to look with favorites Kenya to be leading and Scotland just behind them. Scotland picked up the 4 pts for the win and Ireland rescued teh bonus point since Scotland batted rather slowly.

The next match is Bermuda vs Ireland, as Bermuda try to rescue their campaign and Ireland try to make up for their batting failure.

Ravi: Hello and welcome! We are live at Sharjah for the 4th match of the 2007 World Cricket League between Bermuda and Ireland. This is a game that we are looking forward to with great anticipation as both teams failed to get off the mark in their respective first matches. Lets talk about Ireland first Sanjay.

Sanjay: Hi Ravi, well Ireland faced off with their British Isles rival Scotland and failed to capitalize on a good start and were all out for only 216. Scotland coasted to a 7 wicket victory. Ireland played well but will just be looking to make sure they go through and finish what they start.

Ravi: Well put Sanj, Bermuda...well what a pathetic tale! all out for 81 inside 18 overs. For some reason they batted quickly but were unable to halt a strong Kenya from reaching their target in only 11 overs. They will be looking to build a decent total at a good rate, while holding onto wickets. OK! Looks like Ramiz Raja is ready to give you the pitch report and coin toss!

Ramiz: Hi, im down here in the middle and lets take a look at the wicket:

Its quite a dustbowl, expect it to break up as we play. I expect whoever wins the toss to definitely bat first as its only goin to get harder. Alright, captains are out in the middle and heres the toss:

Well you won the toss skip, what are you gonna do?

Romaine: We are going to bat first on this one. We have a good batting lineup...we just need to play better focused cricket and i think we can get the result today.

Ramiz: Ok Ravi, back to you.

Ravi: Thanks Ram...ok well looks like Bermuda are goin to bat first and try to do a better job than they did last time. We will have live action from the middle soon!

Match State:
Bermuda won the toss and elected to bat first

This time Bermuda have to be careful while batting & its a gud chance to win this match...

Bermuda's openers give them a good start

Ravi: Bermuda have made a much better start to their second match vs Ireland today in Sharjah. After 4.5 overs they are 34/1, having lost Tucker after a pretty good partnership made by the opening pair. Both Tucker and his partner, Borden, cut, pulled, and drove their way into making a pretty respectable opening stand. In an over in which Tucker hit the first 2 balls for 4, the 4th ball of the over was too much for him. He ultimately fell for 15 from 14 balls, hitting three 4's. What are some other talking points Sanjay?

Sanjay: I think the Bermudans are batting with a lot of discipline. They obviously know that McCoubrey is the weaker bowler and they are going after him....i mean hes conceded 31 of the teams 34 runs! Ofcourse, because they were going after him, they gave a silly wicket away. They really coulda done well with keeping those two in as they seemed to have a good understanding.

Ravi: Well put Sanj, ok folks, stay tuned, we'll be back in a few overs with another update.

Its a gud start though they have lost a wicket... Now Bermuda must be contented to rotate singles & boundary of a bad ball & importantly, their main intension shd be playing full 50 Overs :)

nice start , i agree qith suren they should try and bat out 50

The Irish captain looks worried

Ravi: At drinks, Bermuda have moved in to a ridiculously strong position at 104/1 from 16.0 Overs. Borden and Romaine have put together a 50-run partnership and will be looking to slow down and just see out some overs, so that they can blast off at the end.

Sanjay: Yea Borden has played a great innings so far, getting to his 50 from only 40 balls!

Borden batted beautifully to get to his half century

As you can see, hes been rather strong square of the wicket, as well as behind square leg. He was excellent while cutting off the front and back foot. He also played late leg glances down to the long region, which was foolishly empty for a long time.

Ravi: So at the first drinks break Bermuda will be looking to keep the scoreboard ticking over and keep wickets in hand. Ireland will want to break up this expensive partnership as soon possible.

Match State:
Bermuda
104/1 from 16.0 Overs
*Romaine 22 (27)
Borden 64 (54)

Ireland
Rankin* 4 - 0 - 32 - 0
Langford-Smith 7.0 - 0 - 30 - 0

this is great batting so far by the bermudans they need to keep it up

ive had a bunch of tests this week and gotta busy weekend. expect an update on sunday night (USA TIME)

Very fast paced batting by the Bermudians. Borden is batting really well and Romaine is supporting him nicely.
