I'm trying to install Windows Vista over my XP I currently have but the virus I'm trying to get away from which prevents me from opening ANY .exe file!

I tried putting the Vista disc in but it won't open it because of the virus.

Surely theres a way around this? :facepalm

Are you trying to upgrade or are you doing a complete reinstall? And why Vista???

I need to completely wipe my computer and start fresh because of these trojans and viruses.

I wanna do a complete re install, I don't care if everything gets wiped. And Vista because thats the only disc I've got..

Well you can put the disk in, restart the computer and boot from the disk. From there you can format the harddrive and install vista. Just remember to back up everything you want to keep beforehand

Oh really, ok, I'll try restarting my computer with the disc in.

You've got to go also to bios and set up that it first boots up from your CD Rom. Otherwhile the system will keep starting Windows XP.

Also it's smart to save some important data you've got on some external disk or another partition.

Well I've already got an "F" drive and a "C" drive.

Reckon I could just install it on one of these drives and be free from this virus as long as I start from Vista everytime?

But then you've lost one of your drives...

I don't care, theres nothing on one of the drives but music which is fine.

BIOS setup? Is that that blue screen stuff?

Yeah, that's the blue screen thing.
Press 'Del' or 'F2' to enter BIOS when the computer starts to boot. From there, look for boot options, and make sure the CD ROM device is the first boot device. If it's not, change it, and save the changes and exit.
Keep the CD in the drive and allow the computer to boot from the disk.
Follow the instructions for installing windows thereafter. They are pretty straightforward.

Yea do what Abhas said. Remember to format the drives before you install it though. Though I think it should do that automatically.

Viruses mostly go after systemdrive (mostly C drive). So put your important stuff on F and clean up your F drive with antisoftware virus.

Yes, this is what you should do.

Shouldn't download so much porn ;)

Talking about porn. I read today an article that criminals are targetting pornwebsites to attract porn watchers. Normally they also put some viruses together with websites, so they can get some information about your system. Or just take over your system.

I tried to find the article and here it is. I actually went to get some information about Kinect that time and I saw that article next to it.
