I have definitely been one of the people who has been critical of Dhoni, but I feel I was wrong. He definitely on merit deserves to be in this team, Kohli or no Kohli. I think this problem is mostly accentuated because of his batting number. There is this phantasma that he should bat 5 but I vehemently believe that 4 is his number. He's the absolute perfect foil for Kohli, Rohit or Dhawan and if he's in by the time we get to the slog, he can really turn it on. Worst case, he can at least rotate in the end and even worse he's always the best at batting with the tail. I don't even want to mention his keeping and other abilities. Once again, I don't think Jadhav is your 4 but he's a brilliant 5. Him coming in at any point beyond 30 overs is just perfect. I don't understand how DK is not at 6 after the consistency with which he has won us limited overs games. It's just bull sh!t! You have a line up of Dhawan, Rohit, Kohli, Dhoni, Jadhav and DK and that team just resonates dominance. There also must be patience with the particular line up for a couple of series so that people feel secure and part of the team and set up. Put Pandya at 7, 3 seamers and Kuldeep. On bowler friendly wickets I'd pick Jadeja over a seamer and on an absolute flat one Chahal over a seamer. KL Rahul as reserve opener and Vijay Shankar as my no 15 as backup for Jadhav and Pandya.

Just came across a video on Cricinfo which was of 2016 India tour of Australia. In that Ian Chappell was saying that "Dhoni's time as a Captain is now over and India needs to get over him and I believe Virat Kohli is the man who can take India forward as he has the ability to do so, he is young, he is aggressive and is pretty passionate about his game so I would suggest them to let Kohli get the reigns now"

And I started remembering that yes everyone during that time used to say that he should become the Captain. Though I wasn't really much convinced about it but I still felt he might lead the team well. And for that particular year i.e 2016 he did really well as India's Test Captain and it seemed that day-by-day he is becoming a really humble player. But now if we look he hasn't just been that good what he used to be at the start. So what do you think, what has changed him ?

If you are talking about just as a leader, than yeah .. the promise he showed earlier as captain got lost and also his captaincy deficiencies were masked by the quality of our team

If you are talking as a player, then he is 10 times the player he was back in 2016 and seems unstoppable

Definitely he is one of the biggest players now in World Cricket and I won't say anything about it but it is about his Captaincy. So do you think he can improve as a Captain ? And what as per you does he need to do ?

The team that is being selected will not go far the semis is my earliest WC prediction they can even have a 1st round exit as well. The first four matches are crucial - vs SA , Australia, NZ and Pak respectively within 11 days could very well decide our fate as well.

Coming to the squad too many bits and pieces players in the middle order - Shankar, Jadeja (If makes the 11) ,Pandya even Jadhav don't give the assurity with the bat when batting under pressure. The over reliance on top 3 will be exposed once again and middle order will have to pull up their socks (whoever bats around Dhoni). So in a scenario of say 50 - 3 or worse the nucleus of the team revolves around Dhoni and how well the others bat Shankar, Karthik , Jadhav etc.

The bowling lineup is good with Bumrah and Shami surely the first two picks especially the way the latter has been performing and both the wrist spinners have to be in the playing 11 as the pitches are mostly likely to be belters so need wickets in the middle overs and a bit of Jadhav as well and Pandya the 3rd seamer.

Have Bhuvi in the squad for Chahal and let him swing the new ball alongside Bumrah and bowl Shami in the middle overs - this is where the difference really will be......teams who can pick wickets in the 15 - 40 overs are most likely to win matches.

Also the two warmup games before the actual tournament will be pivotal before playing the final XI.

There is no one else who can bat well in the middle order right now in India. Either there is experience (MSD) or there is talent (KL) but not the combination of both apart from MSD. If both experience and talent i t here, then form is not there (Yuvi, Raina). So, I feel we have picked a good middle order in what's available to us. After the top 3, if collapse is there, MSD will hold up and soak up the pressure. If runs are required guys like Pandya and Shankar can go berserk. Jadhav is combination of both. So, it's a pretty good look.

I really hope that Shami is picked ahead of Bhuvi in their current form.

Just to have a good lower order batting, you are ok if it weakens the bowling ? England pitches are bowlers grave. It is very important to have wicket taking options and Shami provides that. He is bowling really well(Hope I don't jinx him) and he has always been a good ODI bowler. I prefer him over Bhuvi right now. Just my opinion

I too think currently he is a better bowler but I have concerns over his fitness and his inability to control things when he is taken for cleaners. Ability wise both are equally capable with the bowling but form-wise Shami would seem better but form is never permanent. I believe the spinners would be more effective than the pacers this WC and we have 2 quality leg-spinners right now
