India Team Discussion

So Kedar Jadhav injured himself, he is mostly out of the remaining IPL games, if he does not go the WC Raydu to replace... hmmmm

News is that Jadhav is expected to be fine in two weeks. He is ruled out of the remainder of the IPL games but it looks like he should be fine to go to the World Cup.

India needs to find a replacement for Jadhav post world cup
he is already 34 and becoming prone to injuries more often than not
He is not great in the field either
Some suggestions for his replacement please??
In my view India should start honing the skills of Shubman Gill
He looks an extremely talented young player with a sound batting technique

Shubman Gill is a opening batsman/top order batsman, if I'm not wrong. I would like to see more of young talented all-rounder who could also be a finisher down the order. Someone like Gukeraat Singh Mann, he has been great in domestic circuit. He can play both, anchor role and finishing role. He can also be a good part time bowler.

Jadhav’s replacement should be Shankar without a doubt. Shankar’s got the ability to bat according to the situation of the game, can rotate strike easily and can also bowl a few overs if needed. I think he’s batting a position too high at 4 but should be perfectly fine at either 5 or 6.

Weird. Out of nowhere, Ishant Sharma leapfrogs the likes of Khaleel Ahmed and Deepak Chahar.

I am not disappointed though. Ishant can be good with his experience and his newfound form.
Exactly! Khaleel and Deepak played with the Indian team, now Ishant out of no where is second option ahead of those two. Ishant has though bowled well this IPL and has been bowling well but still that is a weird decision

It is weird because out of all the bowlers on stand-by, Khaleel is the only one who provides a bit of variety in the bowling attack. He provides that left arm variation which we are missing and he is actually bowling well for SRH so he would be my first choice in the stand- by list if there is an injury to one of the three fast bowlers in the squad. My second choice would be Ishant Sharma simply because of his experiance and how well he has bowled in recent time. My third choice is Deepak Chahar and the last choice would be Saini. In my opinion, Khaleel deserves the first go in case of an injury.

And wonder what message are the selectors sending across to the likes of Khaleel who was playing for India in the lead up to the WC, only to be leapfrogged by the likes of Saini (who has not played a single international match for India in his career) and Ishant Sharma (who was nowhere in the frame for India's WC plans as he was tagged a specialist test bowler)?

Though I am not too disappointed with Ishant being there as second stand by, both him and Saini should be only after Khaleel.

Rishi Kapoor asks Ravi Shastri, Virat Kohli – Why is Rishabh Pant not in World Cup squad?

This guy should better not talk about Cricket as he is being already trolled a lot for his comment he made before CT'17. Even though he is speaking some sense over here, but not every Indian would take his comment in the right way

IYKWIM:p

I don't know why these guys think that a Cricket field is their Bollywood Drama Set where they could bring up such comments and get away by their acting skills

Really worried about some players heading into the World Cup.

  • Kuldeep was last seen being hit out of the park and potentially being mentally destroyed in the RCB game. Feel like he was terribly mismanaged by KKR this season (like pretty much every one of their players:p). Whilst I don't doubt his skills, he's a bowler who relies on confidence quite a bit. In the series vs England last year, he was extremely dangerous early on, but towards the end of the LO fixtures, he was comfortably dealt with. He needs to ensure that he isn't figured out too early in the tournament.
  • Shankar hasn't made a single significant contribution with the bat for SRH. He doesn't really strike me as the kind of player who could be relied upon to build an innings or make a big score, unlike most other number 4 players.
  • Jadhav's been starved of runs for a while in both Indian and CSK colours. Added to that, he's not really shown any slogging ability in recent times. He's got one of the highest strike rates among batsmen during the death over the last 4 years, and needs to start playing like that.
  • The lack of left handed batsmen apart from Dhawan makes the batting lineup quite susceptible to certain types of bowlers. Wasim for eg was heavily troubling Roy and Bairstow in his first spell in today's match but when he came on for his final spell, he had to deal with Morgan who simply smashed him. I wasn't really a fan of selecting Pant in the final squad, but maybe he could have been there, given that he's a leftie?
  • The top 3 hasn't really dominated IPL either. Although given that they're much better and reliable in ODIs compared to T20s, I wouldn't worry about that just yet.
  • Dhoni's been in good confidence this year but he doesn't seem to be entirely fit and given how the selectors hinted at DK being nothing more than backup, I wonder if he would be able to play the entire tournament reliably.
  • Bhuvi's pace seems to have dropped considerably, considering that he was hitting 140 kph two years back consistently. And now, he's been bowling at 125-130 regularly. Added to that, he seems to lose confidence when he's hit in the death overs, which leads to him leaking a lot of runs. I'm not even sure if he deserves to be in the playing XI on merit right now.
EDIT: Also, while the other teams are playing practice matches with most, if not all of their ODI players, ours are playing T20s. This is surely not the ideal way to prepare for the World Cup.

The only real cause for concern i see here is the last point in the Edit. The rest are hard to judge because at the end of the day this is IPL and T20. These players bring out a different game when they play ODIs. The batsmen and bowlers will get a lot more buffer to get into a rhythm. We have never been great at T20s in any case.

The lack of match practice in ODIs and fatigue are real issues. I hope this doesn't lead to us having a poor start and then playing catch up in the end. At the same time you don't want to peak too early either and then lease steam towards the end. Such a long tournament this one will be

I am really surprised how people are writing off the Indian team considering the fact that we have been amongst the best teams in the One-day format for more than a decade now. I mean this Indian team beat SL in SL 5-0, Windies in Windies 3-1, Australia in Australia 2-1, New Zealand in New Zealand 4-1, South Africa in South Africa 5-1 and we did trouble England in England even though when we lost 2-1. And only one of the match they got out less than 100 and people made it a big issue like they got out on that score 4/10 times. And is the recent Australia series at home the yardstick to judge this Indian side ? And people are constantly bringing up the issue of this side not being able to score 350+ but nobody looks at the fact that we are well capable of winning even after scoring 300-320 and we have done it as well. This shows that we are doing better than other teams. If you talk that even Pakistan is being hammered in England after scoring 350+ then also look at the fact that they are not playing their full-strength line-up. And the way people are backing England is actually surprising. I mean England have the history of doing well before any ICC tournament and then failing at last and I am very confident that same is going to happen this time as well. And last thing I have to bring up is that people over here are talking of India not being able to lift CT'17, WC'15, WT20'16, I mean this is all rubbish !!!! The fact is these losses definitely made Indian team better. And especially the way they lost in CT'17 I definitely believe that they would be all charged up to rub that off and make history this time. I am sure that Indian team will actually do well than what most of the people on this forum think !!!!!
