India to quit Champions Trophy

I seem to agree with the BCCI's policy though. Nothing wrong with Aussies coming thrice in 3 years. They wont be playing a full series ,first year ODI's then next tests and again ODI's.

Also Champions Trophy well it is not that it has caught the imagination of he cricketing world and also why would any country (board) would incurr losses while some other organisation rakes all the moolah.

Do you realize you just admitted that the Asian teams are the best?
No, but now I do know what kind of a crack you are:p .

By growth, I meant the game gaining popularity outside South Asia.

Well the India tour New Zealand tour isn't cancelled. It is shifted ahead in the schedule. If you read the article in the cricinfo it's written that they will play after WC 2007. Cause before WC India is scared to play againts NZ so they don't wanna loose againts them which is the reason that they might loose out of form and may not play good in WC.

What crap? Did losing to New Zealand hurt us in the World Cup? We reached the final of the WC. New Zealand were bowled out in the Super Sixes category itself!

Yes you're right it will be played in December 2008 with three test and 5 ODI. So I guess it would be summer time in NZ. Anyway too long time to go.

I think the new management of the BCCI under new President clearly wants to maximise profits from playing top-tier cricket nations more often. Australia, England and Pakistan are the three teams that the BCCI is focussing mostly on. It is crystal clear that India playing against Australia, England and Pakistan generates most interest and thus the cash flow from host of sponsors. However, in order to play these countries often, it has to break the ICC's FTP (Future Tour Programme) and not participate in ICC Champion's trophy which in my opinion has been pretty lame and uninteresting. The generated revenue

BCCI also plans to revamp the domestic cricket in India. It is planning to launch its own television channel which are supposed to show as many as 75 domestic matches a season including the international matches. All these are ambitious plans but who knows too much of anything is bad... I hope BCCI does not overdo things and kill the goose that lays the golden egg...

Well put. I think BCCI need to make sure that the cow's udders don't get dry. ;) Although launching their own channel means that we won't have those TV rights fiascos every year. They will be hiring a professional production company, so hopefully we'll get a high quality broadcast.

I feel the idea of airing domestic matches on television is a very good idea! We need to promote domestic cricket all through within India! Here are its benefits

1. It makes the players more responsible and makes them take domestic matches seriously

2. It increases the chances of good players being recognised by the selection committee

I think India, Pakistan and Australia. Or something like that, right before the world cup. Consult hte first few pages of the thread.
