Pleasantly surprised. Just hope they don't squander away this advantage. If weather stays okay, chasing 120+ would be difficult.
I would say anything above 160 is a trouble for India. But it seems rain is going to save England.

For a change, our tail wagged and not vice versa. Bumrah has really improved as a batsman while Shami has gotten more hopeless. India wasted the new ball today. I don't know why Siraj was trying to be Holding/Garner by putting in that barrage of bumpers. They should have opened with Shami. But what do I know? Shardul is playing and it still makes me dizzy that Ashwin is warming that bench. India ahead, but batting last will be a challenge. Anything more than 150 to get for India and England will be in the box seat.

I'm still perplexed at all this chatter surrounding Rahane and Pujara. You can't just turn up in England and make runs. These are challenging conditions and it's best to stick with the experience and quality these guys have. My only worry is that Pujara has fallen in this dubious habit where his backlift almost comes from backward point on occasions and not gully or the slips which is why his bat face closes on impact. It's been going on forever now and all it needs is for someone to point this out for him. He will hit balls and get out of it but someone needs to tell him this. I don't care how gritty he is, he won't make many runs in England even if he bats 4 times in a test if he keeps doing that in England.

Frankly, am amazed with the pressure on Rahane and Pujara. True, they haven't scored big, but they have been instrumental in blunting the attack in their last 15 innings. What also surprises me is that literally no one is onto Rohit, whose returns has been very dismal. Even, if you look at the manner in which he has gotten out, that doesn't evoke any confidence. Giving him a long rope in ODI paid off. However, to try and use the same tactic in Tests, isn't.

It also is a concern that Rohit and Virat both are towards the last legs of their career. Isn't the time ripe to groom some youngsters? Shaw /Gill - I really don't understand Kohli's logic of playing musical chairs with every batting position. This isn't the way forth. Else, we soon would have a succession/ transition problem.

I'm assuming by last legs you mean the "age" factor? If that's the case, I'm really interested to know why the same bar is not applicable to Rahane (33) and Pujara (33)? You seem to want no pressure on these two while Rohit and Virat are in the crossairs.

This is the exact thing he has been doing since the Bangladesh Test series at home back in 2019. No wonder why he struggled when he toured NZ in 2020. I know he scored runs in Australia but the ball doesn't move that much over there. He just needs to figure this out.

Honestly if India were chasing 50+ you would be sweating :p

only rain will save England now not that many English kids will care as they presumably are watching the Hundred :rolleyes
