Root has taken this match towards England. I haven't seen an Englishman play so well in recent times at all. Probably this is one of the best of the lot in last 2-3 years apart from Stokes Headingley heroics.

Steven Finn averages 56 at 3. ;)
AFAIK he has retired.

Not retired. Just realistic that he's a long way off getting selected for England.

It's been frenetic and he could have got out five or six times easily; he's overcompensating for Sibley's tempo and is getting away with it because he's uncommonly good, but this isn't even Root's best innings in the match at this point. It could easily become his best home innings in a long time if he consolidates after the break but he's nowhere near that yet.

Also, did you not see his 228, 186 or 218 in the winter? Those were masterclasses

Masterful stuff from Joe Root. Sibley's played a vital role holding up the other end for me but could have cashed in with a few more runs when the conditions were arguably a bit more batting friendly.

Well, Jonny Bairstow has undeniably been England's second-best batsman in this game. While that is concerning, I can honestly say that he'd be one of the first names on the teamsheet for the next game

India sorely missing Ashwin now. He's got that knack of picking up crucial wickets with well executed plans at the most important moments.
