Only taken two years between half-centuries. Helps to be batting in the sun, with his mate and on a flattened wicket.
I think is why he keeps his place; the hope that if he can get three figures it'll unlock Bairstow 2016 mode.
I don't think England win the Ashes with Jack Leach as a front-line spinner and Dawid Malan seen as some kind of saviour. The thing is that Bairstow unlike a bunch of these youngsters who have been picked on potential and then failed has shown that he's willing to work on his flaws and try his best to actually preserve his wicket for the most part. No doubt that he's very lucky to have gotten such a long rope that has never been yielded to plenty of others (and no doubt in that the youngsters have all been mismanaged) but hey, at least he's finally coming around to being a half-decent bat again. I think once Stokes is back, he slots in for Mo. Get in Dawid Malan/the next rookie in at three, keep one of Broad/Anderson firing with Wood/Stone wrapped in cotton wool, Leach properly backed and you might win the Ashes. Just might.

Man said win The Ashes
The Aussie fans are saying the same about their own side though. Someone has to give up at some point.
They're at home, we don't have Archer. It's a done deal.
Root can't win the Ashes single-handedly, Smith almost did it in England but still didn't.Normally you wouldn't but you only need to be less chaotic than the Aussies, Justin Langer seems to have some real dressing room issues with doubts over Paine's captaincy and we're still not sure of how much Warner paid for when he played through that injury last summer. On paper Australia should do better but if Rooty's going to be this good and Jimmy keeps looking graceful as ever, England have more than a chance.
I also feel you're judging Leach harshly, I just think he needs to be backed properly. He's got the talent, but has received shockingly low backing. Maharaj of RSA is another example, bloke has enough talent to be world-class easily but it is tough to maintain those standards if you're constantly dropped or underutilized with minimal backing.
One game would be an improvement over the last two series. If the Indian C team can nick a game off them, your lot has a fair chance.
