Think he retired last year. Would Scott Borthwick suffice?Feel like we're missing a random old head to recall proper 90s style. Is Ian Bell still playing? (incoming BlockerDave rant)

Tbh we need an opener and Sir Al is still playing for Essex. I'd be here for it.
VVS Laxman wants James Vince at 3. Those two names keep coming up.The captain is to blame for the screw-up this morning, but at least he's owned up to it.
Michael Vaughan wants Malan in at 3. Yes/No?
Get Graham Thorpe out of the dressing room and on to the pitch . I loved watching him back in the day, and he had a Test average of 44.

So, we are supposed to pin our hopes on two guys who have worse test averages than the players who are failing at the miserably at the moment.
Can't see why not; he's certainly had international successDawid Malan
If they're not going to score runs, they might as well look good while not scoring them...James Vince
Vince and Malan have a combined average of about 40 in test cricket in England. Maybe one could take the first innings and the other the second.I can remember when an average of 40 was seen as the minimum needed to get into the England team. How far we have fallen.
Maybe Malan deserves another shot at test cricket, he's probably about as consistent as Joe Denly in first class cricket. He could be the Shaun Marsh we are looking for. Can't see why not; he's certainly had international success

If he were fit I think they'd be about at the point of shunting Stokes up to bat in the top three

We already have Zak Crawley for the look nice but be rubbish role.
England have no Pujara, no Labuschagne/Smith and no Williamson. We do have a guy called Joe Root who averages 38 batting at number 3. It's not spectacular but maybe we could give him a try.
Number 4 has been for the last 8 monthsIs Root any good as an opener though? As number 3 is basically and opener in this England side
