AFAIK England have not struggled for bowlers in Australia. It is the batsman who haven't put up enough runs. And are lacking a quality spinner.
You referenced a series 10 years ago, things changed big time since then. On the last Ashes tour, the English bowling attack lacked venom, the likes of Anderson, Broad, Woakes are at their best when there's clouds and movement off the deck. They sorely lacked a real genuine fast bowler to take advantage of the quick pitches to make things happen. Their bowling attack last time around could barely reach 140 kmph, and on top of that their batsmen did pretty well as well. Root made consistent 50's, Malan and Bairstow had centuries on that tour as well. They were inconsistent yes, but the batting wasn't the main problem. They lacked an X-factor in Stokes and a couple of bowlers that could bowl some heat. Seems like England will have at least one genuine fast bowler in their lineup with Wood this time around, but they haven't groomed a proper spinner nor given genuine fast bowlers enough game time, so they do look somewhat one dimensional in that regard.

I feel so bad for Rahane. He is such a tremendous talent and just needs one or two test matches where he scores runs. Unfortunately its not happening because its now become a mental thing. He needs to take himself out and focus on playing domestic cricket, score heavily and be back in this side.

Vihari or Agarwal can take his side, I am pretty sure Kohli will not put SKY in for the next match.

For all the folks here who were questioning Pant , this is what he can do as well apart from the Slogging the hell out , he has a good defensive game.

This is exactly what he did at the Gabba.

Rishabh Pant has struggled too its been 4 tests now including the WTC final.

Scenarios like yesterday were perfect for him but he threw his wicket away.

The biggest issue is he doesn't trust his defence in these conditions we all know his attacking nature but the thing is he needs to have a better defence and at the moment its all over the place.

Its a Surprise that he has been playing like this & If you look at how he made his debut in Tests is because of the Subsequent A tour India had with Main Tour in 2018 against England, his performances in that A series was a result of him being drafted straightaway into the senior squad replacing Dinesh Karthik.

Also the subsequent A tours are missing because the contingency of the squad is too large and again the whole covid thing.

Rishabh Pant, Agarwal, Vihari were straightway into the senior squad due to their performances in these A tours.
Well.

Saqib Mahmood from the way he bowled in the Pakistan ODI series with the white ball he seemed a genuine option for that X-factor bowler in Test Cricket. Someone who is tall and quick who can swing the ball both ways and off the pitch. Wood is fairly inconsistent so even he doesn't give good impressions.

Also Anderson bowled beautifully in 2017-18 Ashes series so he would definitely have something to offer. Other than that this is another terrible series on cards for England in Australia.

You think so because you want him to play because you are English.

Dont let your post make it to the Indian dressing room
