India tour of South Africa - 2013/14

Happy to see Ishwar Pandey do well. He has been one guy who has shown lot of promise in the domestic circuit, and he needs to grab as many opportunities like this to knock harder at the national team's doors. Hope the selectors take note of him. He has good height, and should get good bounce on SA pitches. Won't be a bad idea to think about him for the SA tour this year end.

I know but at least 2/3 challenging players like India have put up.

Is he good enough to be thrown at the test level? I saw a video of his action and it looked more or less home for me. A lot of WI bowlers bowl with that action but does that man -- Pandey -- has pace of around 85 miles an hour? Btw, I was watching the India-Pakistan U-19 world cup match the other day and was very impressed with Sandeep Sharma. He moved the ball big time but only problem with him is as is with most Indian bowlers -- lack of pace. He generally bowls in the range of 77-79 mph of India would not really want to have a flurry of medium pace swingers in the team and kill the variety of their attack.

I take it you meant 'at least'.

^Auto correct on my phone is a ****.
On the Sandeep Sharma thing, he was the leading wicket taker in the U19 world cup. He doesn't need pace he is a wicket taking monster. And i think in IPL he only played 3/4 games and got like 8 wickets.

What little I have seen of Sandeep Sharma puts him in the same mold as Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and I agree with Samuels that adding him to the test squad would kill the variety of the attack.

In any case, 77 mph is unfortunately part-timer pace at the international level - Jonathon Trott bowls at that pace! Sharma looks like a guy who can get stronger and gain some pace without losing his swing. Now if he can bowl the same kind of deliveries but at 6 mph faster, he'll be a real handful. It's all about core strength and shoulders, Ajit Agarkar looked like he could be blown away by a strong gust of wind but still managed to bowl in the mid-eighties, so there's still hope for Sandeep.

Well Zaheer Khan is doing hard work to get into SA tour squad. As he was not selected because of fitness issues, he is working hard to get fit for that tour.He and Yuvi had a tour of France. Both took fitness training there. Now Zaheer's plan is to go to South Africa to do Bowling and Fielding practise and then he will attemp himself in Ranaji Trophy from Mumbai. He hopes he will do better and selectors will take him in squad (I'm too hope same).

Wishing him a best luck :thumbs Wants to see him playing back again for India :)

I too expects to see Zaheer back, although he is not that fit.It would be better if he would replace I Sharma in the tour.Sharma hasn't yet been able to show off after his comeback,so I would go for Zaheer anytime.

I would go for a fit Ishant Sharma than to have a not so fit Zaheer back and then have him break down in the middle of the tour. Ishant can do well in SA where the pitches will be bouncy. With his height, he can do well on such pitches. Ishant, Yadav and Bhuvi are almost confirmed for the SA tour. The remaining two slots should be between Zaheer, Shami, Unadkat, Ishwar Pandey and others.

I am pretty sure Zaheer will be back for that South Africa series unless he is injured at that time. The question is, who will he replace? If he is in the squad, he will certainly be in the final 11. So I don't know who will they drop? Ishant being the spearhead of this attack, I don't know how they will drop him. The most likely choice would be Yadav. However, If Zaheer is in the squad, I would drop Ishant and go for Zaheer, Bhuvi and Yadav.

Impossible. I definitely see Ishant, Yadav and Bhuvi in the squad for SA. For Zaheer, its a question of whether he is fit enough to be in the remaining two slots or not. Zaheer's selection is not a foregone conclusion, not atleast with our current set of selectors who have been taking a "no nonsense" approach mostly so far. He will have to slog it out if he wants to be on the plane to SA.

Had a couple of drinks with my mates the other day, we were chatting about Sachin's cheating in 2001 at Port Elizabeth, wondering if he would try the act once more?

The Denness affair - When Tendulkar was accused of ball tampering | Regulars | Cricinfo Magazine | ESPN Cricinfo

I don't think that sachin was cheating. He has admitted that the visuals are correct but he was just trying to clean the mud in the ball but was so unaware of the fact that it should have been given to the umpire to clean. He was not trying to tamper ball or wear of the seam but was just a mistake which was done with no intentions. But let me say that I am not up for anymore "wars" on the name of Sachin.

I hear you man. Is UDRS available for this series?

If someone is still following the A series, Indians had a tough time in the field with South Africa's bowling allrounder pair adding 186 for the seventh wicket. Shame none of the two managed to reach the three figure mark. Only good thing for India A is their batsmen has made a solid start but I am surprised to see Pujara opening the batting instead of Rahane. I know Pujara has done that in the past and Rahane bats in the middle order in FCs for Mumbai but given that Rahane plays as an opener for India in ODIs and T20Is, he should have been the ideal choice for the second opener's slot, should not he?

Is UDRS available for this series?

I don't think so. UDRS was not deployed in the last South Africa vs India series as well.
