India

I still think 6 specialist batsmen is unnecessary in this format, the man coming in at #7 hardly gets a look in and when he does it's just to slog a couple out of the ground, Irfan Pathan can do that.

Sehwag
Gambhir
Kohli
Raina
Yuvraj
Dhoni
Irfan
Ashwin
Harbhajan
Zaheer
Balaji

We basically have batting till #9 either way, but in this case our bowling is a lot stronger and we won't be forced to bowl with part-timers, which is just silly in a format that's slog heavy.

I agree with Epic, this should be the playing XI for India throughout the tournament, It has the right balance... 5 mainline bowlers out of which 3 can hold their own in T20 format...enough backup in form of Yuvi, Raina, Kohli and Sehwag too.. what else would MSD need apart from a bit of luck:lol

I wonder why MSD insists on playing 7 batsman, balance-wise this XI should do the job

The Indian team is strong on paper, but we all know cricket isn't played on paper.

We just about had this lineup(+Rohit) in the 12 a side(11 batting, 11 fielding) warm-up game against SL, but the interesting thing here was we were able to bowl them out for 120 and this was solely possible because of a 5 man bowling attack(+Irfan). Part-timers won't win you matches Dhoni, good bowlers will.

Yes but you also have to see that Rohit has played an important role in the match. He made 37 and was involved in a crucial patnership with Dhoni. So which batsman will they remove from the lineup?

On the match, good to see Dhoni coming back with runs and Pathan getting a 5-fer. Rohit knock was also important for us to reach that total, Harbhajam also did well.Malinga has been horrrible against India for quite some time now, 50 runs in 4 overs.

Gambhir? Very unlikely, but he did get hit on his hand while batting and had to retire hurt, so there's always that, an injury.

Btw, do you know where can I get some Harbha-jam? :p

Gambhir's injury is not too serious so no point of worrying but they might decide to rest him as we are playing against Afghanistan.

Well we have Pakistan before that on Monday and if he's fit to play he probably will play, which will also be a 12 a side game(11 batting, 11 fielding) btw, so really no tweaking needed for that game.

Yes your line up looks good epic 6 specialist batsmen and 1 all rounder and two spinners will be a great line up for us. With this line up we can win the world cup. :D but i don't want to see that hell rohit :mad

just because 1 player had a bad tour you cant call the player rubbish surprisingly no one says nothing to tendulkar he is a legend and i respect him but he is also a human both are humans so you should not judge a player because they had a bad tour.

Rohit is a talented guy, he performed well against the Lankans at the practice match.

Gambhir apparently might not play tomorrow, blessing in disguise I say, Sehwag and Kohli to open I hope.

India v Afghanistan, World Twenty20, Group A, Colombo : India to start with four bowlers | Cricket News | ICC World Twenty20 2012 | ESPN Cricinfo

"Our bowling line-up is slightly weaker than our batting. But we have experienced bowlers who can do the needful and also the part-timers. We are looking to play with seven batsmen to start off the tournament which means the part-timers will have to do a really good job so that we can sustain with those seven batsmen. Otherwise, as the tournament progresses and [if] we still find that our bowling line-up is a bit too weak, we will have to go with six batters and five bowlers."

Fair enough, but where is the trial and error in all of this, you only have 2 group games to mess about then it's time for the Super Eights.

Team india is so strong to win the cup...........:thumbs:thumbs

How do you pick a side now? Seriously, almost everyone did well against England and it will be mighty harsh on a player to ask him to sit out after a good performance.
