Indian Domestic Cricket

I’ve always wondered how well he would do in an international side. He’s definitely not going to get the Indian gig for obvious reasons but wonder if a side like Bangladesh would immensely benefit from him if he has the board’s full backing in the initial, harsh stages.

Those are some staggering numbers. I remember reading about Sarfaraz Khan as well, who was having an outstanding domestic season - his reward? A mere cheque of (I think) 5 lakhs? U.Malik would have got that by bowling fastest delieveries in a few IPL matches :lol

Does anyone know why Rahane red-carded Yashaswi Jaiswal in the Duleep Trophy Final today?

Heard it was some discipline-related issue. The tabloids didn't really elaborate upon the details

Was sledging the batters constantly and was disrespectful towards the officials is what I heard. Footage shows him also remonstrating with his own captain on multiple occasions. Honestly it seems like the match got to him and this isn’t the first time either. He was involved in the U19 WC final spat too. Rahane handled it very well considering that Jaiswal was disrespecting him too in the heat of the moment. Absolutely classy player.

Pandit would do exceedingly well as their coach. Upcoming sides like Afghanistan or any one from Netherlands/Scotland would also benefit from his hard taskmaster attitude. Bangladesh need a person who will hand hold them, not someone who will guide them strategically- their players arent yet in that zone. Pandit would, in many ways be very similar to what Chandika Hathurasinghe was.

Is anyone following the SMAT this year closely? Wonder how the substitution rule has been utilised. As far as I know it has made an impact in a couple of games and looks like a powerful tool in the right hands.

Mumbai win their maiden SMAT title.

On a more important note, just noticed that it was Sarfaraz Khan who was donning the gloves for Mumbai. If the coaches are making him become a regular wicket keeper that is a big plus for Indian cricket as Sarfaraz is a tremendous talent being under utilised due to fitness issues. However, him being a wicket keeper will ease that bit as he might not have to make those long sprints which other fielders do.

Was always going to be an uphill battle for Himachal Pradesh considering their underdog status (yeah they did win the VHT last year but that was equally surprising). Mumbai's batting lineup is still strong in this day and age.

I don't think Sarfaraz is getting into the Indian side as a wicket keeper. He isn't good enough as a specialist keeper for test cricket (and you wouldn't want his batting to be affected by keeping anyway) and he isn't good enough in limited overs cricket to leapfrog Kishan/Pant/Samson/probablymissingsomeonehere and play white ball cricket internationally.

India needs to have format specific players now. The likes of Sarfaraz and Shaw, in this form are simply too good to be left out. The selectors need to make a wise (and perhaps hard) decision in terms of what their best XI is going to look like for each format. The abundance of talent+IPL means that every one feels they can be a part of each and every format. Given the amount of cricket being played by India, this is something that should be factored in.

From a coaching perspective, even Dravid ought to let go of some formats. I have said this before- it makes sense for Dravid to act as the Director of Cricket wherein all national teams(Men, Women, U-19) ,their coaches(assuming we go format specific) and the NCA Head report into him. India could truly benefit here if they go for format specific specialist coaches.
