Indian Pitches

Cricket is a sport first, only then its a business. The main attempt must be to balance the playing conditions between bat and ball. But thats not happening right now with batsmen enjoying the time of the lives. We dont want a situation where we end up with bowling machines rather than bowlers which dart out balls at varying speeds.

But yeah with the advent of T20, bowlers have become more insecure. If there had been no T20 played before, India's score in the recent Gwalior would have been 325-350 and Sachin would not have got anywhere close to that figure. But he cant do anything about it. Once the format sets in, your mind automatically changes to a style. But pitches can be changed a little to give more balance to the bowlers.

Its actually pretty annoying to see the games in India TBH. All of them follow the same strategy and it is a complete run fest out there. Nothing in it for the bowlers. Well that just clarifies why India doesnt have quality fast bowlers

We should praise some good indian fast bowlers like Zaheer Khan etc that they are still surviving and surviving well on these surfaces

If he had a little bit more support from the other end, he would be an even more dangerous bowler. Zaheer also struggles on the placid pitches of India and the subcontinent (the thing with him is, he limits the damage from his end a little more efficiently).

Put a tinge of green on the surface then. We would like to see scores of 270-280 which are being chased down with some difficulty.

If these pitches continue,Tendulkar's record shall last for a very short duration

What is wrong with pitch that favours batsman? It's exciting for the fans and viewers watch high targets to chase

Too much of the same thing is not good.

While the Indian pitches haven't been anything to write home about, I think scion_sid's point hit the nail on the head.

What Twenty20 cricket has shown batsmen over the world is that they are good enough (perhaps because of talent, perhaps because of the conditions increasingly favoring them) to be more aggressive than the cricketers of yesterday were. This is not only a phenomenon in limited overs cricket. The average run-rate of Test cricket has been slowly creeping up as well. When the Aussies introduced their aggressive brand of cricket in the late 90's/early 2000's, it wasn't that all the pitches they played on suddenly became better. The Australian batsmen just realized that they could up the aggression without upping the risk, too much.

I think most quality batsmen today realize this. The Sehwags, Gayles, McCullums can afford to be super-aggressive and on their day pull off a stunning innings--whereas in the past they wouldn't even have thrown their hat into the ring.

Certainly something needs to be changed. Not only for the sake of the bowlers--if this trend continues, batsmen will forget how to play on a pitch/in conditions that offers something extra for the bowlers.

These types of wickets are good for ODI's and T20's but not for tests. But whenever indian pitches start assisting spinners other teams starts to complain. For example Kanpur test against South Africa and Mumbai test against Australia.

Indian pitches for batsman in Indian pitches the batsman can easily can make good cores

I think its not wrong with pitch but ODI 50-50 is coming under influence of T20 and becoming aggresive.:laugh

Kanpur and Mumbai Tests were examples of dust-bowls, not good for Tests. Agreed that a team needs home advantage, but these were pitches where even our batters struggled.

BCCI should look over new stadiums as well.....
Lucknow has a nice stadium and no venue was kept from a long time(it may have been 15-20 years). It is having a good pitch also + floodlights too....

I think pitches haven't changed for many years actually, and the bigger difference is the improved bats, mandatory ball change, lighting quick outfields, and shorter boundaries. If you look at averages, the number of balls faced per wicket hasn't changed much, what has changed is percentage of boundaries and overall strike rates.
