Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Game, set and match Mumbai? Looks so. A washout favors Mumbai, rain and DLS favors Mumbai since they bat second. And even the pitch and KKR batsmen are favoring Mumbai.

If KKR get out of this unscathed and reach the final, no one can come in their way to the IPL trophy from there on.

KKR are in the game! If they keep pegging at the wickets constantly like this, the required run rate might not matter at all. Game very much on!

Uttappa appears to be scream the batsmen to death, so they'll eventually loose wickets. Quite a tactics!! Match is interestingly poised though. Wish KKR had scored 15 more! :rolleyes

Mumbai to face Pune for the 4th time this season, in the IPL Final. Pune have it at 3-0. Can they make it 4-0? Or can Mumbai hurt Pune when it matters MOST?

I have a sneaky feeling it might be Mumbai's night on May 21st. But I will be behind Pune for sure for one man - MS Dhoni.

I hope Rising Pune SuperGiants can lifr the trophy.

Clearly RPS had made superb progress, from no. 7 in previous season to straight to final in this season.

RPS win in d-day will be massive response towards ipl organising committee!! Pune, the champions this year will no longer feature in ipl 11. So no defending champions!! :lol

Why would it be a 'response towards IPL organizing committee'? From the start, it was mentioned that these two teams have been called in just to fill the gap created by the suspension of CSK and RR. Once the suspended teams return, these two teams exit. Also Deccan Chargers won an IPL trophy before but they don't even exist anymore (Sunrisers are different from Deccan Chargers).

I do have a feeling that RPS and GL might stay if IPL decide to expand the league next year to 10 teams. And expansion could happen if the BCCI decides to make more money as a result of their shrunken revenue from the ICC as part of the newly reconstructed revenue sharing model. Nothing will be known in the very near future.

Every time the 10th edition of the IPL is mentioned, Bangalore's name will induce a bit of grief, be it the team or the ground/pitch! Pretty filthy pitch for a T20 game, specially in a playoff! It almost feels like there's no groundsman to water the darn pitch!

What? Care to elaborate?
Ah! Okay! Though RPS and GL had signed a 2 years franchise agreement until CSK and RR comes back, wouldn't it be nice if we had 10 team tournament IPL 11 onwards! But that won't happen so RPS being champion this year and not featuring from next year, is as lame as cm punk leaving wwe with wwe championship back in 2011!! ;)

Deccan Chargers won an IPL trophy before but they don't even exist anymore (Sunrisers are different from Deccan Chargers).
Deccan chargers won the trophy at IPL 2 in Africa and participated in IPL 3 as defending champion unlike RPS, who if becomes champion, won't feature anymore in IPL.

To sum up, I wanted to say that if RPS wins it, BCCI should make it a 10 team bash. How lame will it be for a tournament's 11th season without a defending champion!! :)

A 10 team tournament would be great for fans but what about international boards (ECB in particular) who miss out on fans, revenue and players? Most importantly, what about the players themselves? As it is, playing a game every 2 or 3 days for a month straight seems to be too heavy a workload. If the number of teams is increased further without a proportional increase in the duration of the tournament, most players will be exhausted before playoffs. There are many complications for sure.

As for the finals, predicting a Mumbai win. They're incredibly strong and will not let Pune beat them for the 4th time in the same season. Smith isn't in great form and Pune lack depth.

Last time when both orange and purple caps were worn by the players of the same team - (Hussey and Bravo) 2013 - MI Won the title.
Last time when David Warner won the orange cap - 2015 - MI Won the title.
2017 - Warner and Bhuvi of SRH hold the caps. IYKWIM
