Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Joe Root enters the auction. What?!

He’s been here before and will again be unsold. Feel bad for the bloke though, he’s been wanting to play in the IPL at least once and I hope for his sake that he gets the chance sometime.

I have full faith in Priety Zinta. She will even raise the paddle for Shabbir Rehman

As always.. some blokes who are just in it for the memes list their prices at the highest like T20 Blast finisher Overton, former BBL star Lynn and NZ anchor Williamson.

Looks like Rahane just wants a team this time around with how low he's set his price. Same goes for Unadkat. Root is worth a sneaky bid for 1Cr too.
Might be wrong, but I reckon a lot of the English guys (perhaps others too) may be contractually obliged to put themselves at the highest price. Or they have bad agents.

Think I've heard this one before too.. what I remember was that they had to pay a compensation of sorts to their county sides when playing in the IPL due to unavailability and it wasn't financially worth it for them to play if their base price was too low due to the compensation taking away a significant portion of their earnings alongside the contractual obligation.

If Overton had a marginally better T20 record with the ball he might easily be the subject of a bidding war. A guy who can hit in the last 2-3 overs freely and bowl serious pace above 140 is every IPL owner's wet dream.

Yeah I remembered after I posted that the counties take a cut, so that'd be another reason.

Yeah, JOverton's bowling record might keep him out but he's pretty much what every team in the IPL is always after.

The big news is.... Kedar Jadhav still wants a minimum of 1 crore. :lol:p

On another note - DJ Bravo has officially retired from IPL and has taken up the role of bowling coach of CSK, since L Balaji is taking a break of one year due to 'personal' commitments.

Good closure for Bravo (just like how Pollard did it with MI few days back). And good that CSK have given bowling coach duties to Bravo. His knowledge of Chepauk wickets probably might be as close to that of Balaji. And honestly I was not sure how much inputs Balaji was providing to the bowlers and also in the auctions, so it would be refreshing to have Bravo as the permanent bowling coach of CSK going forward. Who knows, maybe Bravo might add some crucial inputs in CSK getting certain bowlers within the auction and might help out better than Balaji, as Bravo is not known to be a 'meek' spectator whereas Balaji seems to give out that perception of being a 'meek' spectator

Having Bravo around for the tips would work well indeed in the nets but I doubt it’ll change a lot of our auction strategy when we’ve usually been a very well planned side there. I’m happy that he’s sticking around too.. between Pollard at MI, Bravo at CSK I hope we see more of players being associated and tied to a particular side in the future years without a mega auction shuffling everyone about. That’s the best way to grow the league and the teams as a genuine sports league instead of just pure entertainment as it is now.

Jadhav must probably know that he’ll never get a bid even at base price and so he’s probably banking on the auction dynamics rescuing him and has a high base price to ensure that if at all he gets a bid it’ll be worthy. :spy

It's either being outright delusional or probably an attempt to save face by putting the blame on high base price should he not get picked up (which is a real possibility)

It seems the only thing that could hinder the 23-year-old is availability. On the FTP, Ireland have three potential series pencilled in - though as of yet unconfirmed - against Bangladesh (twice) and Sri Lanka during the IPL window. If Little still gets picked up, it would be his second exposure to the tournament having been a net bowler at CSK last season, albeit the experience did not live up to his expectations.

"I was told it was something it wasn't," he explains. "I was told before I went that I'm a net bowler and if someone gets injured then there's a chance I play. But I couldn't bowl when I wanted, I'd get two overs [in training] and think, 'Two overs, I'm halfway across the world here!' Maybe I was naive because I played in the Lankan Premier League and T10, I had a good year behind me.

"I'm an international cricketer, it didn't seem right. The other guys were keen to get involved because they never had that sort of exposure. When I found out I was a net bowler that was required to bowl at someone when the slingers were tired, I was like 'get me out of here' - which is probably why they'll never have me back because I left after two weeks."

Damn, I was hoping that CSK try for Joshua Little, but based on what Little has mentioned here about his stint as a CSK net bowler last year, I now highly doubt if they would even go for him. Hope CSK forget what happened, because they need a death bowler after Bravo-Jordan's exit and Little can be an option.

Well... the latest news is that Jadhav is not part of the IPL 2023 auction anymore. Does it mean he has retired from IPL, or is it just that he's not playing this season? Nobody knows....
