Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Delhi Daredevil's rope in Ricky Ponting as Head Coach for IPL11.
Rahane and Watson retained by Rajasthan Royals.

Rubbish!

Watson can only be retained by RCB, not RR. And I for one don't give a toss about who is coaching whom.

Here are some latest updates from IPL:

Royal Challengers Bangalore, the perennial underachievers, have roped in Gary Kirsten and Ashish Nehra as batting and bowling coaches respectively. Big Coups!
Mumbai Indians, the perennial overachievers, are meanwhile reported to retain skipper Rohit Sharma and the Pandya brothers. Secured!

Mumbai Indians, over achievers? Their support staff is often more star studded than most IPL teams playing squad.

I think RCB is a fair evaluation. Over achievers I think have been RR. They always punch above their weight.

And like I said in my previous post, IT REALLY DOES NOT MATTER who the bloody coach is! If it did, India wouldn't qualify for the world cups in 2019 and 2020.

When is the player auction or has it already been completed...?

Oh it's Steve Smith not Shane Watson.
But I give a toss, cause good coaching staff can pick smart players in auction.[DOUBLEPOST=1514973181][/DOUBLEPOST]

*Sarfaraz retain is a bit surprise, but for 1.75 core is good deal (but from salary cap it will cut down 3 core)...

If a franchise retains the maximum of three players before the auction, it will lose from the salary cap INR 15 crore for the first player, INR 11 crore for the second, and INR 7 crore for the third. If only two players are retained, then the first will cost the franchise INR 12.5 crore from the salary cap, and the second INR 8.5 crore. If only one player is retained, then he will cost the franchise INR 12.5 crore from the salary cap. The IPL has also imposed a salary cap of INR 3 crore for uncapped players retained before the auction. Each franchise can retain a maximum of three capped India players, two overseas players and two uncapped Indian players.

Kings XI Punjab are a joke! Axar Patel was not some hot shot that people would go nuts about in the IPL. He could have been bought back with ease for the price without even using a RTM. Instead, KXIP thought it would be smarter to reduce their purse by 12.5 cr. Manan Vohra at INR 3 crores should have been their only retention.

Rajasthan Royals 12 cr for Smith??? He could have been RTM’ed with ease for 6-8 crores specially considering the fact that RR don’t have very many players to RTM. Poor! Rather spend that money on Stokes.

MS Dhoni is not worth 15 crores today, but 8/10 is a fair price. Raina could be worth the same amount and I think CSK have made an emotional decision. But, this is not a disaster and they look set to be strong.

RCB have done what I expected. AB in my book is a question mark at 11 and I would have gone for Rahul. They’ll now RTM Chahal and Rahul and other franchises will big up the prices on them because they know RCB will match. They will also stupidly buy back Gayle.

KKR deserves a huge applause for Andre Russell at 7 crores but I’m not sure of the Narine signing. I would have picked Kuldeep or Manish Pandey.

Superb so far from SRH! Excellent picks at lesser or at par value!

DD have done what they always do and that’s be stupid. I would have kept Morris and Cummins and gone with 3 RTM’s for the auctions.

MI as expected. Loyal decisions from Pandya and Bumrah. Expect RTM’s for Krunal and Pollard. Krunal and Stokes are going to go for big big money.

Jadeja over Bravo, Faf?

Jadeja over Bravo, Faf?

It makes sense on many counts. First, Jadeja is a local player and does not come under the "only 4 foreign players per XI" restriction. Second, he is a spinner and on our Chepauk fortess and on most Indian wickets, he is expected to give CSK major help in the middle overs and is an attacking wicket taking option. And Jadeja is as good a fielder as the brilliant Faf and the sensational Bravo. And batting wise, he causes more damage than Bravo in the bottom when he gets into the groove (Bravo is also a 'he can cause huge damage if he gets into groove' type).

I think CSK will get back Faf or Bravo on RTM. I imagine Faf will be a better option as he can open the innings and play the anchor role at the top that Mike Hussey did so amazingly well for CSK during our heydays. And Faf's fielding is spectacular. I doubt we can get both Faf and Bravo back.

Bravo is the talk of past.

Really, it would have been better if they would have got QDK. He would go for a lot this time, I think.[DOUBLEPOST=1515124075][/DOUBLEPOST]

Uhm did you see this yrs BBL?

I think CSK have made an emotional decision.
And it's exactly that. I don't think CSK is expecting Dhoni to go guns blazing and suddenly become his old self. It's got more to do with reclaiming the fan base and support. Nostalgia is an underrated thing.

but I’m not sure of the Narine signing.
I don't agree with that. Narine is a great bowler who has always done well in past seasons. To top off that, he can strike the ball pretty hard in the top of innings. I still remember how he batted in the last season. So, kkr did a good choice too.

AB in my book is a question mark at 11

I don't agree with this too ABD is worth every penny and he is way better than Rahul. I am not telling Rahul is bad, but I would rate ABD much higher than Rahul (anyone would). I don't understand why you said RCB should have retained Rahul instead of ABD for 11 cr ?
