Same with Green too... He already hit a six and need 10rpo at that time, he can easily played ground shoots in next 4 balls... Also I wonder what happened to time penalty... Why KKR get time penalty in last game...
Agree! All 3 of them tbh- tried to hit out and perished. One would have thought that after Jacks got out, the others might have wanted to stabilize.

It's not a well thought out rule and I've seen Teams not being able to fully capitalize its potential. Given that players are being more vocal now, I reckon it will be done away with. But having said that I wouldn't be surprised if it's tried out on a trial basis in ODIs as well.

They had their best chance against GT in the final couple of years ago. I agree they have a brilliant squad this time round too but then SRH might have other plans... Its the first time in a long time that their squad is clicking big time.
It will be interesting to see Boult, Burger, Ashwin and Chahal against the swashbuckling SRH top 4 under the pressure of a knockout game.

They did try it out in the early 2000s with the same supersub. Most teams didn't find it feasible and the idea was eventually dropped.
That said, if IIRC, there are huge differences between the IPL Impact player rule and the then ODI Super Sub rule:
1) Only 1 player was allowed to be named as super-sub while Impact player rule allows about 5 from which a team can choose 1 in the game at any point of time.
2) Second and the most vital difference was that the supersub was to be named while exchanging the team sheets at the toss which means supersub had to be decided before the toss. This had teams hamstrung on a few occasions when they had a bowler as a supersub but was asked to bat first or vice versa.
The Impact player rule allows flexibility on both fronts. Of course, it will come at the cost of having more and more specialists rather than allrounders coming up through the ranks.

Why the Supersub isn't a super idea
The chat that from the ongoing IPL season in my opinion should actually be about the standard of pitches and the tiny excuse for grounds. 220+ has been fairly regular while 250+ mark has been breached quite a few times already. I understand that people like to see batsmen hitting sixes and all but we can definitely exciting 170-180 games. I personally enjoyed the 270 run ODI games more back when they had 34 over ball change rule few years ago that made it tricky for batsmen to score and had more skill involved in the game rather than hoiking the ball out of the group or bowling wide yorkers...

Given how much of an old boys club cricket is as a sport, doing what Steyn suggests sounds like a death knell for anyone’s career and there’s examples to show that too.
I wouldn’t mind it going away at this point. Maybe extend the concussion sub rule to allow for other forms of injuries as well and force teams to name a like for like replacement before the game for all playing members in case someone needs to be subbed out.

I said this at the end of the last mega auction that RR formed a great core of players to challenge for the title and they’ve only improved since then. Would be a shame indeed if they don’t win but SRH and KKR equally have been quite impressive and the rest of the pack behind these two all have something going for them.
At the moment it feels like Hardik is being used/inserting himself as a versatile utility player to plug in the gaps wherever needed rather than carving out a role for himself. In his first MI stint he was the variations plus strike pacer, a spin hitter and finisher. At GT he was a powerplay bowler who operated as more of a batting all rounder that batted at three or four and tried to play a balanced innings with acceleration when needed. This year, he’s batted at four different positions whilst walking in at different stages of the game, has taken the ball in five different positions in six times and has opted to not bowl in two games. You would call any player being used like this as a complete waste of their skill but when it’s the captain… it is even more mind-boggling.
