Indian Premier League - General Discussion

If Russell can bowl - that's six. Rana and Tripathi can bowl a bit too.
And that is what I dont like! Depending on Russel to bowl given how injury prone he is! Good start for us and thank god the Warner drop did not cost much.

And this is the reason we should have played Kane- Bairstow can prove me wrong if he isn't going to get bowled through the gate. :rolleyes

SRH don't deserve Kane Williamson.

Huge KW fan, but how would you fit him in this line-up? You can not keep Jonny out of the line-up after the form he showed in the limited-overs series vs India. Warner is the captain and one of the most consistent batsmen in IPL, Rashid is a must, and I feel Nabi is very underrated in T20's. If Kane is in the line-up, he has to bat in the top 3. Nabi will give you decent runs in the lower-middle order, plus his crafty off-spin bowling is an advantage as well.

I am also pretty sure we will see Jason Holder a lot more if they play on some seamer-friendly tracks. Another hugely underrated cricketer

SRH has this in the bag and Bairstow will win them the game. Already 36 runs and only lost 2 wickets!

Check the line up that won SRH a top 4 spot last year. Nabi/Holder have to play and Warner and Rashid cannot be touched. There is 0 comparison between Bairstow and Williamson. The difference in class is mind numbing. Bairstow is a flat track bully and yes he's an outstanding white ball bat but as I said, Williamson can bat against any sort of bowling and on any track. When given a proper run, Williamson has amassed 700-800 run seasons. I just hope that next year he lands up somewhere worthwhile. A franchise with such a poor middle order keeping one of the best batters in the world out of the side. Unbelievable.

Yes!!! Good to start the campaign with a win. Looked a little more closer than it seems. #KorboLorboJetbo

That was the perfect target set by KKR there. If only Mumbai got 5-6 runs extra in that first game, it'd have been different. Great innings that from Nitish Rana despite coming in after getting COVID

Chennai has finally managed to improve the pitches while still retaining the spin factor in their games. Well done! 160 and above is perfect for T20's and today a side scored 180+ and won a game. I guess since CSK aint playing, they tweaked and improved the wicket? Hope this stays on for next year and TNCA communicate this to CSK management so that they dont pick a squad in mega auction for "good ol' Chepauk".

@SaiSrini Not too sure how SRH does deserve a top 2 spot with the approach their batsman brings to the table. Their side has been full of uncertainty ever since Williamson got injured during 2019 IPL.

I think Bairstow is a sort of a luxury to this side rather than a necessity. Saha is a good batsman at top of the order and he can very well contribute as we have seen last year. I don't understand how do you play Shankar at 6 & Samad at 7 when the run rate is already close to 12 runs per over. Nabi should be the one who should act as a cushion down the order in situations like today. Shankar batting at 6 is just unacceptable. In an ideal scenario Manish Pandey must be the no.3 while Williamson at 4 would give strength to this line-up. Shankar at 5 and Samad at 6 further strengthens the lower middle order while Nabi & Rashid should work as all-rounders acting as finishers while batting.

The best team combination for SRH must go as

:aus: David Warner :c::bat::os:
:ind: Saha/ :ind: Goswami :wkb:
:ind: Manish Pandey :bat:
:nz: Kane Williamson :bat::os:
:ind: Vijay Shankar :ar:
:ind: Abdul Samad :bat:
:afg: Mohammad Nabi :ar::os: / :wi: Jason Holder :ar::os:
:afg: Rashid Khan :bwl::os:
:ind: Bhuvneshwar Kumar :bwl:

Its just a few tweaks they need. They should most likely promote Pandey to open the batting, seeing the way he struggles to have good S/R's. Move Shankar up and have him play when the pressure to slog is not as high (he struggles when he has to go slam bang). And bring Williamson in and get him in at 5 (since he can bat anywhere and can turn the dial on when chasing big scores). And to compensate for the loss of Nabi, play Suchith who is a pretty useful batsman too along with good numbers in T20 cricket for off spin (ECO of 7.2 and 50+ wkts)

Warner
Pandey
Bairstow
Shankar
Williamson
Samad
Rashid
Suchith
Bhuvi
Sandeep
Natarajan

One thing for KKR, if you are not going to bowl bhajji, might as well have a fast bowler take his place. Shakib, Varun and occasional hand of Rana will be enough as spin options. Russel, Cummins, Nagarkoti and Prasidh will be a good deadly pace option.

Mavi, Warrier, Negi, Nagarkoti so many options to go for us to replace Bhajji. Again only if Bhajji is not going to bowl. The team already has too many leaders, Morgan said bhajji was not part of the game but was helping others, we dont need tha. today Russel looked a bit off and if one of them have an off day a good 6th bowling option will be crucial.

Bairstow played pretty well, but he did struggle a bit with rotating the stroke along with Pandey. Not completely convinced that Kane should be kept out at the expense of him batting at 4. Needed Pandey to explode at the end, he struggled big time during his whole innings. The only time you know Pandey is going to have a great night is judging his intent from the first ball and he'll play one killer knock of the season.

Utterly stupid decision to bring out Shankar ahead of Samad, 57 off 24 was the ideal situation to bring Samad in and Shankar can't hit big from ball one. Samad should be a lock-in at 5 and not bat any further down. KKR did bowl very well after Bairstow got out, didn't give any loose balls.

The only way KKR will mess up this season if they overcomplicate things. They have all the ingredients to make the top two and win this year, but mishandling their riches will be their single downfall to not make the playoffs this year. Their batting order should strictly be Morgan, Russell, Karthik and no tweaking that.
