Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Over the last few years plenty of people (myself included) has said Indian team should model themselves on Mumbai with big hitting middle order all rounders. Now Mumbai look like that Indian team, struggling for a sixth bowler.
Tbh, the auction where you let go the entire day by spending 15cr on a single player, 8cr for next year. You can't expect to win. 8cr Tim David is warming the bench. Mumbai were known to let go players if they cross a certain amount, they let go Buttler at 4.2Cr! This time round the tables turned. A Punjab-esque release coming in the next auction. Ishan Kishan has to go to be honest, you can't be scroring below 100 with this amount. More importantly you need the money to buy proper bowlers.

It's amazing that they did not try to go for Neesham who was already in their camp once. Would have made perfect sense in this all-rounder scarce auction. Criminal that he went for base price.

I was in favour of going in for Archer and Tim David, but I wouldn't have benched David after facing 11 balls.

Definitely see the biggest issues was not in replacing Hardik, Stoinis and even Krunal. Just had a scan through the squad and the only real all round options, beyond Pollard, seem to be Allen, Sams, and Sanjay Yadav.

Neesham would've been a good bet and Liam Livingstone would've been a better buy than David because he can be that extra, pretty reliable bowling option.

DK can do no wrong this year.

VK is ending up doing the opposite.

Tale of two cities.

After leaving Indian Captaincy, VK doesn't looks like the same VK anymore.

Unpopular opinion but I guess Rohit Sharma has lost his charm as Captain (IPL atleast). The way he has used the likes of Bumrah, Mills & Undakat has been absolutely questionable. Also he keeps on backing past players even when they are way past their prime. And you see he backed Krunal despite him not doing anything worthwhile since 2019 IPL upto last year.

His Captaincy stint have started to stagnate. Perhaps it makes me feel similar to what Dhoni's Captaincy did post 2015 WC. Yes there would be moments of brilliance. Yes there would be some string of pretty good performances but in the long run he might not achieve much.

I just hope to be proven wrong. Also I think we(Mumbai) should start grooming a guy to takeover after Rohit.

@Bevab just waiting for some counter points. I always felt you were the right person to talk about domestic circuit in India off late.

And what about International Cricket? Has he lost charm just in IPL or international cricket too?
