To me, Rajvardhan Hangargekar with that brilliant 19th over won CSK the match. Yes, Lucknow needed 37 off the last 2 overs and it was a tall ask, but on this pitch and with Badoni and Gowtham being big hitters and also with Hangargekar playing just his second game of the IPL and being entrusted to bowl the toughest over of the innings, he pulled it off EXCEPTIONALLY. Could easily tell from this game that Dhoni was hugely impressed with Hangargekar in the first game that he bowled an extra over of Chahar at the start and almost made Hangargekar our go-to death bowler. Yes, he leaked runs in his first over against Pooran but he pulled it back so well in the 19th. Tushar improved his death bowling today (also helps that the spinners created such a chokehold in the middle, inflating the required rate for the opposition) but I still have no hopes in him. I wonder what is happening with Simarjeet Singh that they are not playing him. Simarjeet looks fine in the dugout, but something is going on for him to not play. We need Simarjeet who is way better than Tushar.
Ruturaj was exceptional today with the bat. A mighty change for Ruturaj to start an IPL season in this fashion. He was known as a "tepid starter, that build on as the season goes". But this is a slam bang start. Conway came to the party. Dube as usual repeated his "tortoise act" but slightly redeemed with that 6-4-6-6". Stokes looks a misfit at where he bats. And same with the ball. I don't see a big value for Stokes after the Impact Player + Team after Toss rules have come in. Yes he was picked for 16 crores, but can't indulge in "sunk cost fallacy" since we have only 4 OS players allowed and winning is important. Maybe rotate between Conway, Moeen and Stokes to give them enough rest and play Magala/Pretorius and Theekshana as and when they come in.
CSK's template of the "Chepauk fortress" will keep us (fans) interested. For the next game vs MI on Apr 8th, Sisanda Magala is available. And from Apr 12th onwards, Theekshana and Pathirana will be available. I stand by my earlier assessment that Theekshana will be a handful at Chepauk. And he seems to bowl well at death too.
Deepak Chahar one pony bowler.
Atleast Bhuvi was good in death in his prime.
This bloke is just another candidate for Dinda Academy.
Chahar was one-pony for many seasons now. But he was visibly improving in 2021 with his death skills. To me, the Chahar of this season is nowhere near 'ready' and that is showing.
