Indian Premier League - General Discussion

He’s also turning the clock back with him denying singles when on strike.

Vintage Dhoni indeed.

Because it’s 2024.

Dhoni’s turning back the clock, amazing hitting.

I'd still bet on Moeen over a year. And MS needs to bat higher. Best I have seen him bat in years. That Jadeja moron makes sure he's not out at the end and his average isn't spoilt.

Star Sports Tamil commentary team activated their cringe pro max mode, but Dhoni still got it :Claping:

Why is the man batting so low? Just WHY? If he is this good, no need to prepare people of his farewell. The man has just too much of mass these days!!! That one handed six was brilliant!! And a lot of big hits on the off side too.

He resurrected NRR damage, he got some serious match pressure practice. Job done! I thought Rachin had a stinker of a day and the team mirrored it. It’s ok to get this out of the way.

Mitchell’s a much better batter than Mo, I’m not sure how you can say otherwise when he’s had two good WCs in white ball tournaments over the last two years, great Blast seasons and a decent 100. The overall T20 numbers over the last couple of years say that too. Besides, we need a number four batter who is adaptable more than a number five spin slogger since the latter is filled by Dube and Mitchell’s better than Mo at the former.

If Dhoni’s in good touch like this I wouldn’t mind him batting one spot higher. I doubt it’ll be the case every time though given his age. Jadeja’s batting is inconsistent anyway.

Tbh the match was lost in the first 7 to 8 overs of their batting for CSK.

I know David’s bad against spin but surely he isn’t as bad as Chawla in general?

Poor captaincy from Hardik to lose four in four overs.
He is such a poor captain that he only hit 34 odd runs. Thala without being captain hit 37. Hardik -3 Dhoni + 10

Booing your captain and highest run scorer of the innings is certainly a choice.

Even dumber when you realise that they were cheering for his boundaries.

Mumbai Indians impact sub usage today or the idea behind it is really good. I’m not sure why Watto at the mid innings break was critical of it or why Manjrekar was criticising it during the game either.

If batting first:

Send Brevis in as the number three or four if you lose a couple of wickets in the powerplay or in the first six to seven overs for someone who got out, that way you’re getting extra batting depth and you’ve already got six decent bowling options in your lineup anyway.

Send Shepherd in if it’s the start of the death overs or during it if you’ve lost five wickets and your next batter has to be Coetzee, that way you get an extra hitter, an extra bowling option and a quality fielder.

Send Thushara or Mulani in (depending on the pitch being pace or spin conducive) if you’re almost at the end of the innings or finished it for the extra pure bowling option. Hell, you could decide based on matchups too.

If batting second:

There’s less flexibility here and you would have to play a bit of guesswork. Like their last game, the best use would be to send Shepherd in but during the first innings itself in place of someone who has completed their spell or offered enough to the bowling attack so that he can bowl a couple of overs in the middle to death overs and then stay down the order whilst batting for a death overs hitting role. The other alternative would be for Brevis to come in if you see the pitch is on the slower side and you would need an extra batter to help.

Ideally, you would want a batting all-rounder or an all-rounder capable of batting in the top six in this scenario with a powerplay specialist as part of the bowling attack. Your powerplay specialist bowls his allotted three to four overs in the first ten, bows out and is replaced by your all-rounder who then bowls an over or two before batting. Someone like Mo, Stokes or even Dre Russ would all work in this role. Again, there’s all sorts of tactical flexibility options in here for teams willing to experiment. Wonder which team will realise the potential present here and use it rather than sticking to the same tried and tested combinations.

I hope MI don’t abandon this idea anyway because it failed today, they were just unlucky to come up against Burger and Boult on top of their game.

This Pandya's transfer looks like Pogba's transfer back to United :asleep:

I don’t think United fans were openly hostile towards Pogba from day one where as with Hardik…

It’s becoming extremely daft now, I’m seeing false equivalences with footballers being booed and whatnot to justify Hardik’s reception. There’s also criticism no matter what Hardik does and it’s clearly affecting him at least if not the team as a whole. Doesn’t help that none of the parties involved have handled this from the start in a good manner.

I'd have started Moeen Ali over Rachin in the first game. But seeing how the latter has picked up and performed, I feel there's no space for Moeen now. Mitchell is very crucial because he's been one of the best all-format players of the last few years (Definitely a better batter than Moeen). So Moeen can only come in through a bowling role (where again, Santa and Theekshana will trump him)

I would have surely gone Nabi over Mulani and Madhwal for Maphaka. But it was good that they backed the 17 yo guy cause dropping after one game would be an ugly dent of confidence for someone that young. But I feel Nabi has got to play somewhere. MI shouldn't really be needing to play 3 overseas pacers at any time with Bumrah and Madhwal already in. So it's either Brevis or Nabi- and the former doesn't fit in the template once SKY is back. And don't forget- MI's spin attack is over-reliant on Chawla. Mohammad Nabi solves a lot of issues here.

The impact rule strategy was very nice. RR did a good one too first game. Batting first, still played Ash at 7. Would bring in Rovman if the batting collapsed or didn't kick on. But if it did (which it did) then no need of Powell in the middle. Bring Burger in the bowling attack and have 6 options.

Makes me realise Impact sub isn't just playing a defined set of 12 players- a random batsman being subbed out while bowling and the worst batsman being subbed out while batting- which is what I always made of it. But teams can just pick a XI of players with enough batting and bowling options and have both a batting and bowling impact sub option, which they can use based on situation- batter if the team collapses and needs runs, bowlers if you wanna have options in the attack. CSK with their deep batting and bowling depth can afford to easily use this tactic.
