Sad, bad and devastating end to our season. Batting was just crap tbh. Lost two quick wickets as always (Robin, Jadeja - ) and it was again up to middle-order. Bell broke down. Sangakkara, Shakib were good. Chopra's 25 runs were crucial as well. Raina played an innings worth admiration but we didn't fire in the last few overs.

To defend that total, we needed some over-the-top bowling but no we did not do it. Our bowlers were drubbed without clemency.

Nevermind, enjoyed the league.

Welcome one and all to the grand finale of the inaugural season of Indian Premier League! Two evenly matched teams have come all the way after fighting it out in 14 exhausting rounds followed by the playoffs to reach here and have a shot at the title for one final time. Yes, the grand finale is here and let us have a look at what's been happening off the field..

Obviously, we are happy to be in the finals, you know. Punjab side is filled with match winners and we are well aware of that. We have done well to be here, you know. We will look forward to execute our plans well on the field and then, you know whatever happens, we'll take it. Yeah, the openers have been a problem throughout and we're still not really very sure about who to open with but, you know, we will hopefully do well.

We also managed to catch up with explosive opener and keeper of the Punjab Lions..

Yea, it was a plan the other day to go after the bowlers. Yuvi told me to play freely and I enjoyed myself. I'm really excited for this (final) match. Wicket keeping is tough but, I'm happy to do it for the team's sake. He (Mahela Jayawardene) is a very good opener. Gauti can bat at 3, I think it will remain the same for this match too.

At the toss, it was MS Dhoni who gave it a toss as Yuvraj Singh called. MS Dhoni won and he chose to bat first and make use of the good batting conditions.

Here is what both the captains had to say:

We will be batting first. It's a big game and scoreboard pressure is immense, you know. Hopefully, we get the runs and then defend whatever we have. We have strengthened the batting as Angelo comes in for Tsotsobe. We will open with Irfan and Manhas. Irfan has done it in the past for us and I feel he's that sort of a guy, you know who can go after the bowling.

I'm happy to lose this one as we weren't really sure what to do. As MSD said, runs on the board definitely helps but, we will look to restrict their strong batting lineup and hopefully chase it later on. The crowd is obviously all up and cheering for them but, that's what keeps us going. We know we have to do it in their backyard and we're up for it.

Two evenly matched teams have come all the way after fighting it out in 14 exhausting rounds followed by the playoffs to reach here and have a shot at the title for one final time. Obviously, we are happy to be in the finals, you know. Punjab side is filled with match winners and we are well aware of that. We have done well to be here, you know. We will look forward to execute our plans well on the field and then, you know whatever happens, we'll take it. Yeah, the openers have been a problem throughout and we're still not really very sure about who to open with but, you know, we will hopefully do well.

We also managed to catch up with explosive opener and keeper of the Punjab Lions..

Yea, it was a plan the other day to go after the bowlers. Yuvi told me to play freely and I enjoyed myself. I'm really excited for this (final) match. Wicket keeping is tough but, I'm happy to do it for the team's sake. He (Mahela Jayawardene) is a very good opener. Gauti can bat at 3, I think it will remain the same for this match too.

At the toss, it was MS Dhoni who gave it a toss as Yuvraj Singh called. MS Dhoni won and he chose to bat first and make use of the good batting conditions.

Here is what both the captains had to say:

We will be batting first. It's a big game and scoreboard pressure is immense, you know. Hopefully, we get the runs and then defend whatever we have. We have strengthened the batting as Angelo comes in for Tsotsobe. We will open with Irfan and Manhas. Irfan has done it in the past for us and I feel he's that sort of a guy, you know who can go after the bowling.

I'm happy to lose this one as we weren't really sure what to do. As MSD said, runs on the board definitely helps but, we will look to restrict their strong batting lineup and hopefully chase it later on. The crowd is obviously all up and cheering for them but, that's what keeps us going. We know we have to do it in their backyard and we're up for it.

Post match talks and presentation

Well, you know, you can't do much when all their batsmen bat the way they did today. I think we definitely had more than enough runs but, Dilshan and Jaya started very well and Gauti was outstanding. I can't really complain much and would just like to congratulate them (Punjab) n their win.

I'm very happy. It feels awesome to win this league and I'm proud of the boys. Young Chand and Maddy have been outstanding throughout the competition and senior players like Dilshan, Mahela and Gauti have been very supportive. I was very nervous after they reached 317. But, Gauti batted brilliantly and then Maddy was the real star to win it for us. Overall, we are really very satisfied and tonight's gonna be a good night!

Very pleased with the win. Well, if 97 means the team wins the final, a hundred isn't needed. I'm glad to have contributed to the team's success. We thought it was better for me to move down at 3 and Mahela and Dilshan to open for us. And, it worked just fine. It feels great. Yuvi has been a fantastic leader and I'm sure the bhangra has already started in Punjab.

Good for Punjab that Mandeep could pull off such a blinder,congrats to them.

In hindsight,we never looked championship material...I didn't feel we could defend the total but didn't let the boys know for obvious reasons.

We were never a settled unit,we had this opening problem to begin with and having been forced to leave out a guy like Vettori suggests that the composition of the squad isn't what we wanted to be.

Only one thing can bail us out of this mess now... *flexes muscles and gears up for trading*
