Deccan Destroyers batting first set up a really good score on a good track. Ricky Ponting and Kevin Pietersen set the tournament on fire with some brilliant T20 stroke-play. The duo added 112 runs for the 3rd wicket. Of the Karnataka bowlers,only Pollard looked impressive as he went for just 17 in his 3 overs. Rest all were brutally hammered by the Deccan batsmen. Sartaj was seen dancing in the stands and was really happy with the batsmen.
Karnataka openers Gilly and Hayden made a quick-fire start and they were 72/2 after 6 overs. Daniel Vettori,the captain of Deccan had no other choice than to bring himself on. Gilly was batting beautifully and after 17 overs Karnataka were 169/2 with Gilly on 83 and youngster Arjun Yadav on 51. The match seemed to be on total control of Karnataka. The 18th over was given to Balaji and boy he delivered! Giving away just 4 runs he took 2 wickets and turned the match on its head. Malinga after being hit for 4 off his first delivery of the 19th over got Gilchrist on 87 and that was the turning point of the match. In the last over Karnataka needed 11 to win and that proved to be just enough for Deccan to clinch victory by a margin of just 1-run. Binnu was disappointed but really appreciated the team for such a geat fight!
Ricky Ponting for his 100 off just 61 deliveries was named the Man of the match.
