(With Sunil Gavaskar & Geoffrey Boycott )
S.G : Hello and welcome back to the " Fourth Umpire " which is the after-match analysis show. We have Mr.Boycott with us to discuss all the detailed analysis of today's match which was so exciting through out and Lankans, who were fighting till the last second, unfortunately got eliminated!
S.G : Well, Geoffrey, i observed that, today u seemed to be so tensed! which team were u backing up to win this til the last minute?
G.B : well, i enjoyed the whole cricket today! also, its great to see that first two games of the champions trophy haven't gone as a one sided match.. In both the matches, there were chances for both the teams to win till the last moment! Today, i liked the way Kiwis bowled and the way Marshall batted!
S.G : But today it would have gone as a one sided match without Marshall taking the entire responsibilty!
G.B : Definitely, the way Marshall batted and took the Kiwis to victory, it was a very matured way of handling the pressure where other players failed! Especially, i was expecting Fleming to stay on and lead the team but the top order of Kiwis did an poor job!
S.G : Coming back to Lankan innings, it was Bond, Sanath,Mahela and joined by Vaas in the last few overs.. These were the players dominated in the first innings! Whats ur opinion?
G.B : Sanath did like what Marshall did for Kiwis but Sanath have lot and lots of experience in cricket though! Also it was a great responsible support from Lankan skipper but was unlucky that he couldnt score big runs in last overs! Regarding Vaas, well, I have seen him playing like that many number of times! Lastly regarding Bond, He was the most impressive in bowling department! Bond's threatening, infact, brought down the confidence of Lankan batsmen!
S.G : Actually, i thought that 230 was a low score and Lankans must have atleast crossed 250 but the end result proved how tough it was to get even 230!
G.B : Especially after an high scoring match in Chennai! But Bond and Marshall did it for Kiwis! Also Fleming played a vital role in captaincy!
S.G : Here we have some interesting comaprisons between Bond and Malinga, where the former threatened through out and latter threatened initially and lost the fine touch in last!
This is how comparison looks,
S.Bond Vs L.Malinga, Comparison!
G.B : There u can see that, Bond was consistent in line almost throughout his spell... He was concentrating in one particular like where he was successful. But Malinga's one is completely different from Bond's one. Malinga's main weapon was moving the ball into the batsmen and some yorkers! But while attempting those, he lost his length providing some width in later part of overs where Marshall smashed it all around!
S.G : Also, attempting yorker turned as an huge drawback in the last ball that ended as an full toss for six!
G.B : May be, he wud learn this by experience in future becos, there are few matches that have already ended like this way! One of the matches is, India Vs Asutralia, where Balaji bowled an low full toss, while attempting an same yorker and that was smashed ending in vitory for Aussies!
S.G : yes Geoffrey, but this match also wud join them for young bowlers to learn. Also, it was very interesting to see the way, Marshall batted!
Here this is how, Marshall's spider looks,
Impressive Marshall
G.B : He was very strong on all sides! Thats excellent! Especially, the way he handled the spinners was impressive! It was expected that Murali might do some magic in Indian conditions, but Marshall handled him well!
S.G : Yes, this match winning innings shd definitely be now one of the unforgettable moments in his life i guess
G.B : Definitely it wud be, also i guess he wont even getting sleep this night that too last ball six might have huge impact on Lankans too!
S.G : Thats correct, Lankans shd be the most disappointed of all.. But it was an equall fight put up by both the teams that ended in NZ's way! Ok Geoffrey, now its time for the special segments!
S.G : Starting with Master blaster of the day, well its very obvious that one man dominated through out and its Marshall, Star Sports Master Blaster of the Day!
G.B : As we have described abt Marshall already, i just like to append one sentence to all, " Simply Matured, amazing & Outstanding performance under Pressure! "
S.G : Well said Geoffrey! Also he provided an excellent entertainment to spectators! well done Marshall
S.G : Now its time for super moment of the day!
well, the last ball six taking team to victory in last second that too when only one wicket was left doesnt happen so often and hence, its StarSports super moment of the day!
G.B : Thats also an unforgettable moment especially loosing two wickets in the same over and also only two runs came from first four balls! This suprised everyone in the stadium and even the Kiwi skipper, Fleming! Great moment of the day!
S.G : Now we will go to the last segment of the show, Safe hands award!
It was good fielding display by both the teams! Jayawardena, who took an amazing flying catch, is our safe hands today!
G.B : Now a days, cricket seems to be filled with lots of energetic playes as we are able to observe lots of Rhodes in today's cricket! This was an amazing catch by the Lankan skipper!
S.G : Lots of Rhodes?? :laugh :laugh
G.B : In his days, very very few players does a great fielding like him but i have never seen anyone flying like him those days but now a days, lots of players flying to prevent even the singles! Thats one of the great improvement in cricket!
S.G : well Geoffrey, now the show is coming to an end... as usual, ur final word?
G.B : It was an unforgettable day for me too and also feel both the teams deserved to win but there can be only one winner to qualify for semis and thats NZ now who succeeded with the help of Bond & Marshall majorly!
For Lankans, Its always better to refresh the bad memries but this is quite difficult to forget... still, as its a knockout pattern, anything can happen like what happened for England! So now its time for Lankans to think about the revenge in their next tour to NewZealand!
For Kiwis, They pulled an narrow victory but its not enough with just two players doing for the team... especially in semis, its going to further tough.. so all the players need to play well to stay safe in this tournament!
S.G : With those beautiful words from Geoffrey, we are concluding our show!
S.G : Thanx everyone for watching it and hope everyone enjoyed it... Also Thanks Geoffrey for the nice analysis! And thats all from the studio,we will join u in next show for the match between India and Pakistan! Now we will take you directly to the presentation Ceremony with Ravi Shastri! Stay Tuned On Star Sports!
G.B :Bye!
