(With Sunil Gavaskar & Geoffrey Boycott )

S.G : Hello and welcome to the " Fourth Umpire " for the detailed analysis of the exciting match between WestIndies and SouthAfrica. Also, we have our expert anaylst, Mr. Geoffrey Boycott ;) with us to discuss the things that happened today.

G.B : Hello Sunil! :)

S.G : Well Geoffrey, even today the match was heading to a close finish but was not that close enough for u to bite the nails like previous games.. isn't it Geoffrey?

G.B : :laugh but it was very exciting Sunil.. No doubt in that.. Among Kallis,Pollock and Boje.. if anyone wud have stayed till the end, then SouthAfrica wud have made it today but was unfortunate that all three departed after a promising display with bat. Kallis batted exceptionally well under pressure!

S.G : Also one more thing that played a crucial role Geoffrey, infact more than batting & bowling,it was the fielding display by Windies which was very exceptional.

G.B : Yes, really impressive! :hpraise Diving here and there.. was very active fielding overall! It looked as if all the eleven fielders were expecting the ball to come towards them.. i.e they were so much alert today! It was a just a Amazing fielding display!

S.G : COming to the first session, Smith after winning the toss, decided to bat.. well its no suprise on this surface with the grass.. How do u rate SouthAfrican bowling Geoffrey?

G.B : The way, bolwers ( Pollock & Ntini ) started off, it was like 200 itself wud be a tough score. With ball loosing the shine, batting became easier which Lara utilised it well!

S.G : yes Geoffrey, Pollock was very impressive in the first over. Pollock and Ntini was almost threatening the batsmen in the first ten overs. The movement was great on the surface.. Moreover the line and length these two maintained, was excellent!

Well, here is the hawkeye showing Pollock's first over.

Pollock's First Over

pollockfirstovrel2.jpg

G.B : As i just said, line and length was amazing! There wasn't much pace in Pollock's spell but he was very much accurate in line & length. The movement which was well assisted by the pitch enhanced this difficulty further.

S.G : Also, its tough for a bowler to be so accurate at this age. McGrath and Pollock, inspite of the age, are still able to bowl with great accuracy which future bowlers must learn from these two.

G.B : Ntini also bowled well, but was mainly relying on his pace rather than line which helped Lara to score freely against Ntini than Pollock. Andre Nel also supported these two bowlers.

S.G : About Nel, he had a great first spell but was smashed for runs in the second spell. The great thing he was able to achieve was " Wickets in regular intervals in Second spell! "

And this Nel's bowling map,

Nel Vs WestIndies

nelmapko5.jpg

G.B : In the final spell, he was offering a slight width and also overpitched few against Lara which was easily put away to the boundaries. Most of the blue dots are from the first spell while most of the red dots in second spell. That tells the difference why he ended with more than 5 runs as eco rate from 10 overs.

S.G : Inspite of Lara's smashing in one end, Nel kept on taking the wickets in second spell. If i remember right, Nel grabbed three important wickets in last four overs. This initiated the Windies collapse in the middle but Lara compensated it.

G.B : Banks smashed few wanted boundaries in the end which also played a crucial role in the end and infact it provided a gud support to Lara after quick three wickets.

S.G : Yes, Windies got handy runs from Banks in the end. But Lara almost dominated the entire 50 Overs and scored more than half of Windies total score.

Here is the spider graph of Lara's scoring today,

Lara Vs SouthAfrica

laramaphs4.jpg

G.B : Thats amazing scoring graph.. Tendulkar had a similar one in the game against Pakistan. Also, both Lara & Sachin got dismissed in the same score.. This show how good friends they are ;)

S.G : :laugh

G.B : Lara was only player for Windies to be comfortable right from the beginning and infact Chanderpaul,Ramdin all played a supportive role who struggled earlier. There was no struggle for Lara through out.. He was looking confident and watchful throughout which is more important for any batsman!

S.G : Agreed Geoffrey.. the confidence is must for any player to survive the mind battles and pressure situations! Now coming to SouthAfrican innings, what do u think Geoffrey?

G.B : Only Kallis looked confident like Lara and he handled the pressure due to Top order's failure in very matured way. Kemp and Hall were struggling a lots though they played a good support to Kallis. Pollock & Boje played a quick fire but the situation forced them do.. In my opinion, Windies bowling & fielding was more exceptional than SouthAfrican batting!

S.G : Thats correct Geoffrey & Thats y i called u a " Analyst expert " in the beginning of the show :)

G.B : :laugh

S.G : Talking about Windies bowling, all the bowlers bowled well. Bradshaw,Collymore & Edwards all clicked together.

G.B : Collymore was smashed for runs in his first spell but he had a good second spell. Bradshaw utilised the left arm angle very well that made more tough for the batsmen to score freely.

S.G : Also Edwards maintained line and pace very well. Though the ball was loosing its shine, line and length was good most of the times for Windies bowlers.

G.B : Well Sunil, you have forgotten Banks?

S.G : Nope Geoffrey.. I was abt to come to the spin options on this surface! For SouthAfrica, Boje was struggling but for Windies, Banks and Gayle both bowled well!

G.B : To me, Banks was very impressive which was again due to the good line and more importantly he was producing the varieties in his bowling!

S.G : Varieties in Banks bowling was one of the major reasons. This is how the hawkeye looks for the first over of Banks!

Impressive First Over By Banks

banksoveroz8.jpg

G.B : There u can see.. He was turning the ball and at the same time he was suprising the batsmen with straight ones. Another thing is, Banks mixed the speed very well which was not there in Boje's spell. He was able to get a quick low straight one as well as sudden extra bounce from the pitch.

S.G : Well, Banks was bowling well right from the DLF series. He has continued the same form here too! Lets have look at the hawkeye for Boje.

Boje's Average Line & Length! ( Today )

bojehwkrs5.jpg

G.B : This is almost a predictable one with left arm bowling which made more easy for the batsmen to score runs accordingly. Also Boje didn't get the varitey of bounce in which Banks succeeded as the extra & low bounce are very handy to suprise the batsmen.

S.G : Once again correct Geoffrey! :)

S.G : Ok Geoffrey now its time for the three special segments which will be continued right after a short break.

G.B : Sure Sunil :)

( ... Continuation .... )

S.G : Welcome back after a short break here in the fourth Umpire. Now its the time for our special segments starting with the master blaster!

Well, there were few quick blasts from Pollock and Boje today. Kallis also played exceptionally well. But our master blaster of the day is Lara, who dominated the bowling through out and scored an amazing 150+ today!

mbtitleyh7.jpg

lara100rr5.jpg

G.B : Its evident from the spider graph itself, which was shown before, that Lara's batting was amazing! He scored runs all around the ground and kept the continuos acceleration of scorecard which was more important. He is rightly our master blaster of the day!

S.G : Now, its time for Safe hands today. Well, it was well observed that Windies fielding was outstanding today.

Safe hands go to Bravo who caught an exceptional flying catch within the circle!

safehandstitleuk2.jpg

kempoutdi6.jpg

G.B : Thats one of the amazing dives i have ever witnessed. But as i said in previous shows, the flying catches, now a days, are coming in lots! Most of the upcoming cricketers are more energetic enough to make excellent dives ;)

S.G : Now its the time for Super moment of the day.

Kallis was going very strong in one end eventhough the pressure was more in other end due to wicket falls. Kallis turned out to be a mojor threaten. So dismissal of Kallis is our super moment of the day.. If Kallis wud have stayed at the crease, SouthAfricans shd have done it today!

smtitlemc8.jpg

kallisoutnt9.jpg

G.B : It was very unfortunate that Kallis was not able to stay till the end. His dismissal gave Lara a huge relief and infact the catch taken there by Collymore was another amaing one!

S.G : Thats it Geoffrey from the show.. i think its gone a bit longer than as usual ;) So final words from u Geoffrey?

G.B : Today both the teams played their level best but it was fielding that was a bonus to Windies and which played a major role in Windies victory!

For SouthAfrica, the top order needs to do well especially Smith who is having a continuous failure in recent games. With Indian series ahead of them, batting needs to be worked out before that!

For WestIndies, the hard work which was seen in DLF cup is found to continue here also. Batting is again here, that needs to sorted out.. Without Lara, Windies wud have been in trouble. But bowling and fielding was exceptional... Gud Luck for them in Semi finals! :)

S.G : With those beautiful words from Geoffrey, we are concluding our show!

S.G : Thanx everyone for watching it and hope everyone enjoyed it... Also Thanks Geoffrey for the nice analysis! And thats all from the studio,we will join u in next show in Semi Finals Now we will take you directly to the presentation Ceremony with Ravi Shastri! Stay Tuned On Star Sports!

G.B :Bye! :)

Nice presentation mate. Yes no one can deny that the dismissal of Kallis was indeed the moment of the match.

Well looking at the semi-final lineups you have to ask just one question - is it a misprint or have Bangladesh actually qualified?
