Cracking Start To The Game!
( Great Contest Between The Ball & Bat )

Well, the players came out of the dressing room following the umpires.. The crowd was excellent with all shouting/enjoying/cheering for their respective teams. It was an cracking atmosphere. With Dravid setting the field ready, the play resumed... Villiers and Gibbs faced the new ball with Zaheer starting off the first over.

Some Initial Troubles.

Zaheer and Sreesanth shared the new ball and both of them were trying to create problems to the batsmen. Zaheer was maintaining a strict line trying to move the ball and suprise the batsmen with some movement. Infact, Zaheer succeeded in decieving the batsmen most of the times & Dhoni was having a tough time behind the stumps to get behind the ball.

In other end, Sreesanth was looking for pace.. It looked like, Sreesanth overdoing the things for pace.. He did suprise the batsmen with some suprise bouncers. But the problem of overdoing the things helped the batsmen to get handy runs.

Villiers, The Victim of Zaheer.

Zaheer's effort was rewarded with an important early wicket of Villiers. The ball was bowled around off stump line.. and Villiers fell in trap of searching and hunting for that delivery.. It resulted in a very thick edge & ball safely landed in Dhoni's hands. Zaheer, straight away, started running towards the keeper without waiting for the umpire's decision and celebration of this vital wicket began....

Villiers also walked back towards the pavilion nodding his head with lots of frustrations in the face. The same disappointments were seen in SA dressing room too. The opening partnership is what which is not working right for SouthAfrica in recent games. Kallis arrived as the new batsmen joining Gibbs.

Fortune In Favour Of Gibbs.

luckygibbsoh7.jpg

Well, after the initial pressure on SA, Gibbs started hitting the ball hard to accelerate the scorecard. He did took some risks though while executing his plan.. In one of the occasions, the ball went high in air while Gibbs was trying to play it on leg side.... but... before the keeper cud come & catch the ball, it landed safely in no-man's land.

In very next over, Gibbs was on non-strikers end. He was well out of the crease when ball went to Pathan's hands.. Pathan picked it cleanly and made an attempt for a direct hit.. The ball missed the stumps.. Bowler was not able to make it behind the stumps too. Still, Gibbs looked like not even bothering about that throw.. instead he was looking at his partner for a run :p The replay looked strange though! ;)

Well, almost an hour passed.. There was a great contest between bat and ball till now.. Bowlers tried to create early troubles.... Then a wicket of Villiers.. And after that, Gibbs bringing back the balance with some hard hitting with luck favouring him already twice. With another an hour left for lunch, SA captain wud like to see the wicket column in "1" itself... while Dravid wud be looking for another breakthrough before lunch. Have to wait and see how this contest goes... Stay Tuned! :)

SA : 36/1 ( 10 Overs,1st Innings )
J.Kallis : 8*(18)
H.Gibbs : 23*(31)

A.Villiers : 2(11) Dismissed by Zaheer Khan.

This Session(50 minutes) : 36 Runs, 1 Wicket.

Exciting beginning to the massive match of the series. Equal honours so far, India would have preferred to get rid of Gibbs than De Villiers and this partnership is crucial.

Fantastic work Suren!
