India In Australia CommonWealth Bank Series 07 Third Match : Australia Vs India Match 3, Second Innings, Live From Brisbane.
End of the Preliminary Round- CB series
Can India get 218 runs within 30 overs with 7 Wickets remaining?
With Raina & Yuvi left at the crease, there was an enormous pressure on batting side to score more than run a ball & to avoid the regular wicket falls. One huge partnership is what India required, but Aussie skipper - Ricky Ponting seemed to continue with his aggressive field setup.
Can India succeed in building Partnerships? :sarcasm
Both Yuvraj & Raina seemed to have broken free as they blindly started going over the pacers. Lee's bouncer was amazingly put away by Yuvi for one-bounce four & Johnson's swinging delivery was put away by Raina for another boundary despite the attacking offside fieldset.
Indian spectators once again started to jump from their seats but it was short lived. Ponting's bowling change - HOPES did the trick. He bowled a slow delivery & Raina failed in his attempt to pick the gap behind. His brave sweep shot attempt ended in the bottom edge as a result of which, ball struck his leg stumps. Ponting & his team continued to celebrate the break-through while shock continued to prevail in Indian dressing room.
Dhoni with Yuvraj have always been a PLUS point
Indian skipper arrived with huge pressure as always. Now, the situation has turned out to be a MUST-RESCUE situation for Yuvi/Dhoni. Ponting introduced another bowling change - Hauritz. Though spin in one end & medium pace in another end was expected to relieve a bit of pressure from the batters, Dhoni struggled against Hopes. Indian skipper found hard to pick the gaps on such a huge ground & Australian fielders remained sharp & accurate enough.
However momentum changed when Yuvi started to go over Hauritz. He attacked the spinner with back to back boundaries - a Four & a SIX! This indeed gave some confidence to Indian skipper who also attacked Hauritz with a huge SIX & it came from his classic sweep. Just a couple of bad overs, Indian team seemed to have pounced back on RR.
Hilfy's Magical Over of his LIFE!
3-Wickets over closed the gate for Indian hopes...
As soon as Ponting understood the attacking nature of Indian batsmen against spinners, he brought back his strike bowler - HILFY. This change once again did the trick. No wonder, why Ponting can win back to back World Cups. :sarcasm Always aggressive in his captaincy.
Dhoni became the victim of Hilfy's slow delivery. Indian skipper tried to clear the in-field for the boundary but the substitue fielder did a magnificent job by catching the ball in ONE hands.
Next batsman - Yusuf Pathan failed as expected against the quality pace attack. :sarcasm Everyone wondered - Why this bloke is still in Indian team if he can't play the quickies. :sarcasm Yusuf was clean bowled by Hilfy. His brother - Irfan Pathan also joined his brother immediately. He was LBW on his very first ball. However, replays confirmed that umpires must have been dreaming during Pathan's dismissal. : Ball clearly seemed to miss the off-stump but still, he was given out.
However, this gave 5-fer for Hilfy. How the previous couple of bad overs gave Indian team - good signs of a comeback, this one over from Hilfy have turned the tables completely otherway i.e, 3 wickets over took India to 117/7. Some signs of crushing/horrible defeat on Aussie soil?
Yuvi - Player who Stopped the Spectators from Leaving.
It was the right time when Yuvraj took the entire responsibility on his shoulders. Harbhajan Singh, who knows to bat a bit, did his best job to give the strikes to Yuvi. These two continued to build a solid partnership that irritated the Aussie skipper. May be, Aussie bowlers got relaxed a bit after seeing '7' in Indian wickets column? Or they had no answer to Yuvraj? It remained as a question among everyone.
Importantly, Yuvraj started attacking the strike bowlers - Hilfy & Hopes that indeed puts the Aussie skipper on backfoot. Some of his shots were just mind blowing He reached his fifty & Ponting started to show some impatience. Knowing that Indian team just had 3 wickets to go, BATTING POWERPLAY was taken at right time & it continued to bring runs for the Indian team in forms of only ONE MAN - YUVRAJ SINGH!
Even Aussie spectators LOVED to watch these BIG HITTINGS.
Johnson, Hilfy, Lee, Hauritz & Hopes were all shuffled by Ponting. But the solution was never found to stop Yuvraj. Batting powerplay produced more than 50 runs & it indeed brought the team near the asking run rate. Partnership finally came through these two - Harbhajan & Yuvraj though former just had the role to take singles & give the maximum strikes to the latter.
Like how Hilfy had his best day, Hauritz continued to have his worst day. He was attacked without mercy by Yuvi. Hauritz's eyes literally closed off when he found the batsman - Yuvi hitting an ENORMOUS/ MIGHTY 110 m SIX! :siren Indian spectators despite their heavy disappointments, started to enjoy this man's innings. Not only Indian spectators, but also Aussie crowd loved to catch the ball hit by Yuvi.
By hitting a 110m six, Yuvraj seemed to have got a place in the history book for the long distance hitter next to Chris Gayle.
'Yuvi, Yuvi, Yuvi! ', remained as a LOUD CHANT from Crowd !
Almost everyone seemed to have got mesmerized from Yuvraj's power hitting. One great thing for Indian team was - the scoredcard kept accelerating at a very good rate making sure that they are near that asking rate. Even the boundary camera-men were waiting with their big cameras to take various stills of this power hitting.
However, most of the Aussie players got irritated to the core & were expecting this wicket of Yuvi desperately. Yuvraj continued his 'NO-MERCY' attack & converted his fifty to a BRAVE CENTURY. He received standing ovation from crowds.
Lonely Battle Continues!
At the time of Yuvi's century, Indian team was around - 191/7 from 30 overs. This indeed imply, they ( Indian team ) still needed around 85 runs from last 50+ balls. Though it looked like a huge ask from Yuvraj, battle continued.
However Aussies got their breakthrough finally. They did not get rid of dangermen, but managed to put an end to this big partnership. Harbhajan Singh got dismissed, but it did not stop Yuvi's power hitting. Sixes after sixes continued to flow for Indian team. Yuvraj reached 140 runs in just 100+ deliveries with 12 SIXES! It was definitely an innings of his lifetime!
It's ALL OVER!
Finally, Aussie strike bowler - Mitchy was able to get rid of Yuvraj & put an end to India's dream in entering CB series finals. Yuvraj attempted to clear the long-on fieldsmen but, Hussey took an EXCEPTIONAL catch near the boundary ropes. Everyone thought that it would go for yet another six, but the brilliant fielding display turned the tables for Aussies again.
Indian batting Scorecard
India was finally all out for 246 runs with more than 13 overs to spare. They ( India ) could have tried to win the game atleast in 50 overs, but the batsmen terribly & horribly failed to spend time at the crease except Yuvi & Bhaji. Except for one big innings - Yuvraj's splendid single handed effort of 140 runs, Indian team had no plus points in their batting.
So, With this loss - India's dream of entering the tournament finals gets shattered & this is definitely not a good sign before the BIGGEST tournament - World Cup 2007 which is right NEXT on their tour itenary.
Who knows, the typical Windies conditions! Lets see. But I am planning to play the finals as well. This tournament is not yet complete for England & Aussies.
Suren for Indian cricket team coach! He makes Yuvraj perform, what more India need?
Jokes apart,Yuvraj played well and took India to a respective position in the match. He had no support from other hand and the main reason India lost was the bad performance from middle order. Except Yuvraj no one really came forward and played a good innings. But still we played fine and I hope we will play much better in the upcoming world cup. World cup matters!
That Raina dismissal animation looks fine but its a bit quick. Rest all looks good, kiu mate. It's good to see you updating this story, you are busy with your office but still you find time to update this story, kiu.
India In Australia CommonWealth Bank Series 07 Finals 1 : Australia Vs England First Innings, Live From Melbourne.
Best of Three Finals- First Finals
England Vs Australia - Always a classic battle
Hello and welcome back everyone for the climax for this series, i.e. the grand finals. With India getting knocked out in the preliminary stages, Australia and England move ahead for the CB series finals which will be a 'Best of 3 finals' format.
It's Strauss Vs Ponting - Classic Mind battle in Other Words!
Can promising/fighting English side overpower the hosts who have dominated as champions for a long time? - This question continue to wonder in everyones' mind among the spectators. Yes, it's a jam-packed atmosphere in the stadium & both the sides look to be favorites. Though Strauss's batting skills (as a captain) remain as a dispute, his captaincy skills continue to impress many. However in the other end, Aussie skipper - Ricky Ponting, without any doubts is expected to steal the show @ Melbourne.
Toss & Pitch Report
The pitch remains to be a typical Melbourne pitch i.e. expected to have more bounce on the wicket & it looks very green too. Pacers are guaranteed to enjoy the conditions. Spinners might get some assistance but not to the extent that pacers would get. This is perfect pitch to test one's batting skills in other words.
The toss was won by Aussie skipper, Ponting & without any hesitation he chose to bowl first. This decision was welcomed by most of the Aussie spectators through a huge roaring sound with excitement. Strauss's only intention at this time seemed to be - To get his side go past 250-270 somehow! Yes, anything around 260-270 seemed to be a very competitive score on this track.
England Batsmen failed, EXCEPT Strauss.
Even KP was not able to answer Aussie pacers.
England did not get the start which they wished. Bopara & Strauss opened the innings for England, but Bopara had no clue against Bollinger who bowled with great/accurate line. Bopara was bowled by a beautiful yorker of Bollinger. Pietersen who was expected to shine at this crucial time didn't have success either. Same Bollinger got rid of KP by a silly inside edge where the ball struck the stumps after that. Two early wickets started to bother England dressing room & Aussie side continued to be in the happiest state.
Both Bollinger & Mitchy impressed with the movement & bounce, but Strauss broke the early shackles with back to back boundaries in one of the Mitchy's over. However, conditions did not improve for England. They lost both Colly and Morgan to Hopes & Bollinger. Second bowling pair - Siddle & Hopes continued the momentum which Bollinger left. Siddle got rid of Prior & this put England with five wickets loss for just around 90 runs.
It was Strauss who continued to fight the pacers and kept the scorecard ticking. With four pacers being impressive, Hauritz was also tried by his skipper - Ponting. Finally a small ray of light sparked the England dressing room through a partnership - Wright and Strauss. These two utilized Hauritz very well & this pitch had nothing for the spin. Ponting's optimistic strategy in continuing with Hauritz at one end despite the runs leakage, paid off at last. Hauritz got rid of dangerous looking Wright for 46 runs. Soon another applause came when Strauss reached his fifty.
With Strauss getting dismissed for 71 runs, there was a small resistance offered by England tail and they managed to put 228 runs on the board after which they were all out in 45.2 overs. Had they managed to play full 50 overs, England could have gone past 250 runs. Main credit goes to Bollinger who destroyed English top order by grabbing those 3 early wickets. :hpraise Strauss deserves a praise too as he held up the innings together when Wright was going over the bowlers in other end.
England Batting Scorecard
Aussie Bowling Card
So, With okay-ish total of around 230 runs, can English bowlers do what Aussie bowlers did? Ricky Ponting is expected to play a big role. Strauss Vs Ponting - Mind battle, still not over! Stay Tuned to find more...
Never knew about this story!
This looks amazing surendar! The presentation is superb and the writings are flawless.
Well, coming to this match, then I would say that Australia are the favorites to win this one now. A good fighting knock by the English captain, but sadly for him, the team didn't support well to provide a good fighting score.
Would be interesting to see how the Australians reply to such a target.
