Murali was unaware of it as he simply started running towards Vaas after catching it... Sinclair was also unaware as he started walking back to the dressing room with disappointment! But the replay in kiwi dressing room must have definitely hurt them as its a crucial wicket in crucial game!
Murali must have been unaware. He is too good a person to claim a false catch deliberately.

Steady position now. Another wicket would all but end the Kiwis chances you would think.

As expected before, new ball did the trick same as what it happened for Lankans... Also Murali seemed to be not that effective so far! Only Malinga seemed to be tough for his movement of the ball!

Marshall Taking The Control!

( Lankans Need A Wicket Badly )

marshalsplendidft7.jpg

Its Marshall now trying to take the game away from Lankans. He is batting with great confidence and infact started troubling the Lankan bowlers too. Atlast there seem to be some entertainment for Kiwi fans as Marshall have started freeing his arms now trying to get the regular boundaries.

But in Other end, Styris is maintaining the patience and is very much contented to keep his partner on strike. This partnership is looking dangerous for Lankans now. Jayawardena was switching between the attacking field and defensive one for Styris and Marshall respectively! Muralitharan who is expected to do some magic, is not gettin any assistance from the pitch or may be the batsmen are more watchful enough!

Excellent Fifty Under Pressure!

marshall50vt0.jpg

Meanwhile, Marshall brought his fifty and raised his bat proudly towards the crowd. He recieved standing applauses from the Kiwi fans... Also the coach & other Kiwi players from dressing room applauded for this excellent effort! :clap From the situation where Kiwis were 4/3 It was this pair who worked hard trying to change the direction of the game atm.

Also, The innings have gone half way now! 25 Overs ended and the asking rate for Kiwis is still above 5 per over but this partnership is looking very solid. Lankans need some quick wickets if they need to come back into this game after the threatening start by Lankan bowlers!

NewZealand :- 98/3(25)
Marshall : 50*(73)
Styris : 33*(58)

Required Run Rate : 5.28/Over

Sudden Twist In The Game!

( Murali & Jayasuriya Strikes for Lankans )
With Marshall & Styris going very well towards the target, it seemed to look a bit comfortable to achieve the target but Jayawardena was trying different options in the field as well as shuffling well between Zoysa and Mahroof with Murali constant in one end. Suddenly, Mahela brought Jayasuriya in other end as he wanted to try spin from both the ends. Infact that worked and broke this strong pair!

Styris, Atlast Dismissed by Jayasuriya!

(Amazing Catch by Mahela )

styrisoutfw3.jpg

Jayasuriya in his first over, while bowling to Styris, bowled an quick straight delivery which Styris tried to go over the top in offside..Styris didn't get the timing right but the ball was travelling in air between the two fielders inside the circle... Jayawardena, who was one of the fielders there, made an amazin dive towards his left and to everyone's suprise, he managed to get hold of the ball... Styris cant believe that Jayawardena have taken that catch.

Jayasuriya was delighted to strike in very first over and started running towards his skipper. The entire Lankan clebrated with joy while Styris left the place with worries and disappointment. He was aware of the supporting role but cursing himself for having broken the patience which he was maintaining thru out his innings! Oram Replaced Styris at the crease.

Oram, Dismissed by Murali for Duck!

oramoutex2.jpg

In the very next over, Murali brought the another breakthrough. He striked with the wicket of Oram that puts Kiwis again in huge pressure.

Murali bowled an excellent delivery from around the wicket... Oram didnt do any mistake than trying to defend it but unfortunately got an edge and Lankan wicketKeepr, Sangakkara took an simple catch! Though Murali knws it was out, he appealed with and excitement and was delighted a lot when umpire's hand went up.

Oram was out for duck that has put pressure not only on team but also on Marshall who is going well in one end. Oram made his way to pavilion with head down! This brings McCullum at the crease to join Marshall.

Well, still Kiwis need more than 100 runs to win this game but have lost half their side already. Only hopes for Kiwis is Marshall and some support is needed for him in other end. While Lankans must be mainly targetting on McCullum as one more wicket wud expose the tail enders though Vettori can be handy with the bat!

NewZealand :- 118/5(30)
Marshall : 60*(85)
McCullum : 6*(10)

Required Run Rate : 5.60/Over
Oram : 0(5) Dismissed by Muralitharan.
Styris : 37(61) Dismissed by Jayasuriya!

Game Reaching Climax!

( Marshall Fighting For NewZealand )

marshaldominatingdc0.jpg

With NewZealand having lost five wickets, The pressure mounted on this pair (McCullum & Marshall). But McCullum is doing an excellent supporting role to Marshall who was fighting for Kiwis.

Mahela brought Malinga and was continuing with Murali in other end but still, Marshall was going over the bowlers making sure that Kiwis are not lost in the track to victory! Marshall used both front and backfoot well and played some excellent shots all around the ground. he was very comfortable against both the spinners but struggled a bit against Malinga as the pitch is still supporting the movement of the ball for fast bowlers!

McCullum, in other end, was very watchful and his main intension was to take singles and keep his partner on strike. Murali,Vaas,Malinga were used by Lankan skipper in the ten overs ( 30-40 )! Taking singles against Murali seemed to be easy for both the batsmen.

Well, 40 Overs ended & Tension exists everwhere around the stadium as its still anyone's game. If Lankans manage to take quick wickets, they wud be in driver's seat. If Marshall stays till end, then Kiwis have chance to make it! So the climax of last 10 Overs have come now and its going to be interesting to see who is going to win this battle!

NewZealand :- 170/5(40)
Marshall : 88*(111)
McCullum : 24*(40)

Required Run Rate : 6.0/Over
NewZealand Need 60 Runs from Last 10 Overs!

Marshall is the Kiwis last hope, if he goes it's all over, but even if he goes stay in I can only see the Sri Lankans winning.

Once again, great presentation and a really interesting read!

Just joined this story but its really good, love the presentation, its gonna be tough for Kiwis but if they work singles nearly all the balls then hit the odd four they could get it... BTW your story name is Indias journey... so who are you? SL or NZ

Thanks mate for joining this :)

Yes its India's Journey to world cup covering the series in which India participates till world cup... As this Champion's trophy is based on knockout pattern, I thought of playing entire series ( totally 8 Matches length ) rather than India matches alone! ;)

Also the links are there in first page that wud help to see the archives or schedules!

I am playing as Kiwis in this match! :)
