India's Tests against South Africa cancelled (apparently by CSA)

LOL, at least a good sign is that there is anger over a Test series being cancelled. Shows the youth actually do watch Test cricket (assuming most on PC are in teens). The day when no one moans about a big series like this being cancelled will be the real day to worry about the "death" of Test cricket

Also, is it being scrapped because of IPL? That makes some sense since it is right before the T20 World Cup, so having players play international cricket right before that probably isn't ideal.

You obviously cannot expect them to update every page immediately. That's the plan as per the FTP that was decided and calling it into question because of something that has only been reported in some Aussie paper is not exactly fair.

Are you sure about that, sohum? I wish that happens. Playing South Africa away is certainly better than playing them at home. If thats true, I would so much look forward to that.

How did the ICC agree to the cancellation of the tests within the FTP? Are they rescheduled or what? How did other nations not protest to it? As much as I like India, I despise the domineering nature of the BCCI and the fact that they are trying to impose their whims and fancies on how international cricket should be run.

Exactly what I was thinking. Was the SA tour to India in 2010 part of the FTP since SA had already toured India last year?
I think India`s tour of SA is a part of the FTP and that is scheduled for Nov-Dec 2010 as of now, as long as the BCCI does not force them to cancel the tests in that tour citing the 2011 WC.

Yes but yesterday it also said that South Africa were coming to India in 2010 :sarcasm

Who knows, if its close to IPL time then Id bet they cancel that as well

India`s tour of SA can`t be close to the IPL because the SA season is Dec/Jan. The IPL is played in March.
If anything, their baby, the IPL will have to make way for the world cup (the real World Cup in 2011).

This is what such "spectacular" decision by our BCCI legends deserve:

What a pathetic pathetic decision! Are these people dumb or what? Now is the time when we should be playing more and more Tests against the world class teams, for the sake of clinging to the goddamn top spot! Yet, just see what they are doing; cancelling matches and killing the game by touring countries like Sri Lanka and Australia again again again and again. This is so stupid!

BCCI are just running behind money. They don't have anything to do with cricket. What they need is Money. This series would have been cracker and interesting but they cancelled it. Surely they don't represent whole country's ideas. Dalmiya was much better.

The cancellation not being reverted is a bit impossible I would say as public opinion plays a massive role in decision-making in India. Everyone is very excited that India has become the No.1 Team in the world w.r.t Test Cricket. As far as I am concerned, I think we will have "negotiations & decision will be reverted" in greater good for the game. And I like this part of the article-

It is incredible that India, long seen as promoting the death of Test cricket by driving the proliferation of Twenty20 matches, has reached the sport's pinnacle. Only Australia and South Africa had sat atop the tree since the Test Championship was introduced in 2001. But after routing Sri Lanka by an innings and 24 runs in the third Test in Mumbai to clinch the series 2-0, India leapfrogged Graeme Smith's side, with Australia rising to third above Sri Lanka.

So, now all of you are coming to your senses for what we have been saying for the past couple of months/years.

Not all of us... Most of us have agreed before that the BCCI is very much money minded and trying to be the big bully in international cricket. Its just that you are hearing it all collectively now (because of India's new No. 1 status and the fact that this 'SA tour of India' in 2010 does not have tests in it).

Sachin Tendulkar has sounded the horn by saying "there is an imbalance in the way tests are scheduled due to ODI's/T20". Dhoni has also spoken about it after the win yesterday (saying that "we should do more about it"). Hopefully, the BCCI could make some changes and incorporate some tests (if they bring the SA tests back, it would be wonderful) for India in 2010.

My uncle is a member of cci andtold me that series might go on with test in it

they don't do themselves any favours do they?

while the no.1 ranking is too close to call for it to mean anything imo they certainly do have the most glittering line up. no one would turn down a chance to go see sehwag, tendulkar, dravid, dhoni, gambhir and laxman, it's a team crammed with stars and legends, so what do they do. make them play one dayers where some of them won't be involved and others aren't as good.

The No.1 ranking is just what was needed to stir up the interest of the Indian public in Test cricket. I hope the hype is lived up to.

I blame Lalit Modi :D

Anyways its a shame India doesn't play more Test cricket.

BTW I think for the Aus v Pak game in England, many people will support the Aussies, especially the ones that have an Australian connection. Can't see the crowd at even 50% capacity though :facepalm
:laugh You've obviously not seen the big Pakistani community over here.

Lmao, he needs to visit Leceister, Birmingham or even... Bradford. :laugh

On topic, WTH have the BCCI done :facepalm The most anticipated Test Series of the year for some has gone down the drain. Can't really express my anger enough. :noway

:(

The BCCI is killing off Test Cricket. How nice.

Can we have a revolt or something? I'll probably just not watch the ODIs at all in protest. If tons of people do that their viewing figures will fall, and maybe, just maybe, they'll realise we're getting sick of them.

Very unlikely though.

Frickin BCCI.

So how many test are we playing in the coming year?

BCCI=:facepalm
