India's tour of West Indies June 2011

a carbon copy of the Pak v WI ODI series, although I see India being far more dominant in the Test series.

That wasn't a full-strength Indian side was it? If not, as I suspect, will it be for the Test series, or has it got so bad that now weakened sides will be the norm to face windies?

England don't seem to ever use those Tests, and the ones against Bangladesh and New Zealand, as an opportunity to rest players and give others a chance. Sure it gives the likes of Anderson and Swann easy and cheap wickets, but can also cloud judgement over selections. While some will say you don't change a winning side, why not? If you have passengers in the side why not bring in stronger substitutes and turn draws into wins and losses into draws? You can't tell me the dominant West Indies side of the 70s and 80s would carry a passenger?

West Indies v India, 1st Test, Kingston: Adrian Barath replaces Kraigg Brathwaite as opener | Cricket News | West Indies v India | ESPN Cricinfo

Although Gayle & Taylor aren't in for dumb reasons as usual. Along with Russell being a better all-rounder option that Sammy. Its a decent WI looking team still.

I think for the 1st two test in Jamaica & Barbados, they should make sure the groundsmen prepare nice bouncy tracks & unleash a all-pace attack on the Indians. That their best chance of causing an upset:

Simmonds
Barath
Sarwan
Bravo
C Paul
Samuels/Nash
Baugh
Sammy
Roach
Rampaul
Edwards

With an average of 44 you'd think the West Indies would hope he was a batsman but alas, how the hell does he make the WI side??

Honestly, get Russell in there, get over the Gayle politics and prepare/ some lively bouncy pitches reminiscent of the Old days and the West Indies aren't far away from being a very good side. At home at the very least.

I mean a fast bowling unit of Russel, Roach and Edwards is a pretty good unit. Sammy needs to be there in the side because they need a real leader which they really lack and he does do a role.

There is potential in that side, they just need to nurture it.

I mean what a player little Darren Bravo is!

It will be Praveen, Ishant, Harbhajan and Mishra. But I guess Munaf might still make it to the first test thereby taking the new ball along with Ishant. With the wicket said to have good pace and bounce, Munaf would obviously be a better choice than Praveen (although according to Roberts, Munaf is spinning the ball these days:p )

The other interesting selection will be Badri vs Kohli. I am confident that Raina is a sure shot selection in the starting XI, now that the seniors like Sehwag-Gambhir-Sachin are not playing the series. I personaly would go with Badri because he is a classical test batsman and on the sheer weight of the runs he has scored in recent first class cricket, he deserves to play the whole series before judgement is passed on him in the entirety. Kohli will always get his chance sometime soon, but for Badri, this is make or break as he is not young enough.

Currently, he's my favourite batsman to watch atm. So much talent and control. Given that wickets were falling all around him, some of the shots he played against Ajmal were unreal. He's continuing the tradition of great WI middle-order batsmen. All he needs is some support.

Am i the only one who thinks that Darren Bravo is a bit Larasque in his technique. Loved his batting in the last game. He took Indian spinners to the cleaners.
He's a gem and WI need to nurture him.

He is highly Lara-esque in technique. Pretty much like how Sehwag started off his career looking like a Tendulkar clone.:D

Kohli should make his much delayed test debut,
Hope he does something like what sehwag did on his debut

No they dont need to keep Sammy & they weren't lacking a leader & Sammy does not role other than keep better players out & continuously mess up the balance of the WI team, especially in tests.

Gayle was doing a solid job as skipper between 07-10. Lets not forget he was the one in charge when England lost a test series in the Caribbean in 09. While Gayle personal average was going up almost 10 points during his stint as skipper, before corrupt politics forced him out of the role.

My Playing XI tomorrow will be

Abhinav Mukund
Murli Vijay
Rahul Dravid
Virat Kohli
VVS Laxman
MS Dhoni
S Badrinath
H.Singh
A.Mishra
P.Kumar
I.Sharma

Sad to see Mithun not playing the first test :facepalm

This is going to be a test of character for Indian bowlers without Zak. Hope they are able to pick 20 wickets especially the fast bowlers cause if they perform well they will do well in England :)

Nice team, but somehow I see Suresh Raina getting the nod ahead of either Kohli or Badri because of his small but important test experience. I think Badri might be the guy to sit out, making it Raina and Kohli to play the tests. I am guessing Dhoni will think on those lines because I feel he has a fondness for more flamboyant and high impact players. Also Kohli being a medium pacer and with the Sabina Park track promising help for faster bowlers, I think Kohli will make his test debut and Badri will sit out for Raina.

Zaheeer Khan's Sob Story

?It was as if you?ve been framed. It was like ?we don?t want you in the team. It?s not about performance, we don?t like your attitude, you?re stopping the growth of cricket in the Indian team?. I felt it personally because I was dropped straight after the Sri Lanka tour, even though I had not performed badly,? Zaheer says. ?I got about nine wickets for Asia XI and I was recalled for the next series. In that phase it was always a struggle. When you?re fighting within the team, when you have a war to fight in your own camp, it is always difficult to win.? - Zaheer Khan narrating his sob story.

West Indies don't look too bad. Against 5 batsmen with no match practice between them, they may well finish the day on top.
