Welcome to this second Twenty20 International between New Zealand and England. This time we are at Christcurc after England's narrow nine run win in the last match at Auckland. The Kiwis will be looking to level the series in the final Twenty20 match of the series. England will be looking to win the first series of the three they will play in on this tour.
For New Zealand there is just one change with spinner Jeetan Patel coming in for Chris Martin because of the conditions here. However also Lou Vincent is going to open with Peter Fulton and Stephen Fleming will bat at number three after his failure in the first match. Daniel Vettori will be looking for a much better performance from his batsmen this time round.
England also make one change this time Ryan Sidebottom getting dropped by the fans because of his poor performance and Monty Panesar is brought into the side. Panesar will be itching to bowl on this pitch as it looks like it is going to turn quite a lot. Kevin Pietersen will open and Matt Prior has gone down the order in the other surprise for England.
Paul Collingwood has won the second toss out of two and elected to bat first in this evening game. The pitch should assist the spinners as it is dusty an it is quite warm so we might see some swing under the lights. A batsman can get a score on this pitch though if they stick it out for long enough.
How many people voted for KP to open? I didnt think it was that many! Anyway Colly's good at winning tosses! lol! gd luck with the match! COME ON ENGLAND!
The opening batsmen for England are Alastair Cook and by selection of the England fans Kevin Pietersen.
1st Over - Bowled by Bond:
4,5wd,2nb,2,1,2,2,2
AC: 9 (3)
KP: 6 (3) 21/0
England get off to a flyer in the second Twenty20 after choosing to bat. Cook manages to play an elegant backfoot straight drive off of the first ball for four and the following delivery Shane Bond nowls a bouncer which goes over everyone for five wides. England get a massive 21 runs off the first over. Not a good start from New Zealand.
2nd Over - Bowled by Franklin:
2,0,1,4,1,1
AC: 13 (7)
KP: 11 (5) 30/0
Franklin bowls better than Bond but it still isn't great as England pick up nine off the over including a a chip over the infiled from Pietersen for his first boundary. England will be hoping he can keep his form going after the first match when he scored over 80 for the tourists.
3rd Over - Bowled by Bond:
0,2,0,W,2,0
KP: 11 (5)
IB: 2 (2) 34/1
Bond comes back and shows his class as he takes the wicket of Cook caught in the slips attempting to cut but done for roar pace by the quickest Kiwi bowler. Cook will be disappointed as it looked like he was doing okay. Ian Bell comes to the crease and will want more than one run in this match.
4th Over - Bowled by Franklin:
6,2,2,0,0,2
KP: 23 (11)
IB: 2 (2) 46/1
England get back to what they do best with Pietersen hitting the ball out the park off of Franklin for the first six of the England innings. This hit is over square leg and keeps going further and further as it crosses the rope. Expensive over from Franklin and maybe Vettori should change the bowlers around.
5th Over - Bowled by Bond:
2,2,0,1,0,2
KP: 25 (13)
IB: 7 (6) 53/1
6th Over - Bowled by Franklin:
3,2,6,0,0,0
KP: 33 (18)
IB: 10 (7) 64/1
England take eleven off the over with the second six from Pietersen and in the same place off the same bowler after a fullish ball on leg stump which really didn't worry KP in the slightest. Pietersen looks unstoppable at the moment and the England fans that have travelled here are loving it!
7th Over - Bowled by Bond:
2,6,0,2,0,1
KP: 33 (18)
IB: 21 (13) 75/1
It is now Ian Bell's turn to show his class as he times an on drive exquisitely and it sails over the rope for a maximum. Great shot by the Warwickshire batsman. England are in control here and making it look easy.
8th Over - Bowled by Franklin:
0,1,6,2,1,0
KP: 39 (19)
IB: 22 (15) 85/1
Another ten off of Franklin in his last over with a maximum from Pietersen over mid on and it goes even further than his previous maximum hits. It also brings up the fifty partnership in what seems like no time at all from these two who look in great nick.
9th Over - Bowled by Vettori:
0,0,6,0,0,2
KP: 50 (27)
IB: 22 (16) 93/1
Kevin Pietersen is watchful for the first two balls of Vettori but then out of nowhere he charges down the wicket and disposes of the New Zealand captain with a massive six over mid on to bring up Pietersen's second consecutive half century.
10th Over - Bowled by Oram:
6,0,0,0,4,2
KP: 50 (27)
IB: 34 (22) 105/1
Pietersen watches from the non-strikers end as Bell explodes into action and hits two boundaries and gets twelve runs off Oram's opening over. Bell advances to the bowler and slots him away over long on for six while he hits a perfect and classy cover drive for the other boundary.
11th Over - Bowled by Vettori:
6,0,0,1,0,1
KP: 57 (31)
IB: 35 (24) 113/1
Pietersen hits a six over the vacant leg side boundary off the first ball from Vettori who has just about had enough of the hard hitting high averaging man. Vettori responds in the next five balls with just conceding two runs but things still look beak for New Zealand.
12th Over - Bowled by Oram:
6,2,1,2,1,2
KP: 60 (33)
IB: 46 (28) 127/1
Ian Bell hits a maximum with an expansive cover lauch rather than drive and Pietersen runs hard with Bell to get eight off the rest of the over meaning England are now surely on target for something around 200 aren't they?
13th Over - Bowled by Vettori:
2,0,0,2,4,2
KP: 70 (39)
IB: 46 (28) 137/1
Pietersen gets ten runs off of the over and for himself with one boundary behind square and down to fine leg powerfully and the ball races to the boundary to bring up an astonishingly quick 100 partnership and Ian Bell has played a vital role with Kevin Pietersen.
14th Over - Bowled by Oram:
2,2,6,0,2,1
KP: 70 (39)
IB: 59 (34) 150/1
Ian Bell has the strike for the whole over and runs four runs in the first two balls to bring up a fine half century followed up by delivering a killer blow to Oram and depositing him down the ground for a maximum. Oram kicks the ground in disgust.
15th Over - Bowled by Vettori:
0,0,W,2,0,2
KP: 70 (39)
PC: 4 (3) 154/2
A quiet over from England's point of view but a great one from the New Zealand point of view. Vettori picks up a deserved wicket in his last over after clean bowling Ian Bell as he went for another big hit on the leg side but was unable to connect and his off stump came out of the ground. None the less a fine innings from Bell. The England captain Paul Collingwood gets off the mark.
16th Over - Bowled by Oram:
4,2,2,2,6,1
KP: 87 (45)
PC: 4 (3) 171/2
Pietersen sends Oram off with a bang. He manages to get seventeen runs off his last over including a slog over the covers and followed by a more delicate effort off the backfoot for a four. Pietersen will be eyeing his century now and he would love to get one.
17th Over - Bowled by Patel:
W,2,6,2,0,2
PC: 4 (3)
AF: 12 (5) 183/3
The fine inning of Kevin Pietersen ends in with the first ball of Patel who surprises KP with his pace and bounce and Pietersen slices it straight to point and looks down at the pitch as if to say it wasn't anything to do with him. Flintoff comes to the crease and puts the fear into the Kiwis as with his second ball faced he launches the young spinner into the stands on the leg side.
18th Over - Bowled by Styris:
2,6,0,6,6,6
PC: 30 (9)
AF: 12 (5) 209/3
While the New Zealanders worry about Flintoff Collingwood takes full advantage and shows why he is the England captain by hitting four sixes off the over! Two go down the ground with great foot work and two go over the leg side boundary with great timing. This is just rubbing salt into the wounds of New Zealand.
19th Over - Bowled by Patel:
2,6,0,0,0,2
PC: 30 (9)
AF: 22 (11) 219/3
Flintoff hits one maximum in a good over from Patel considering he is bowling at the death. Flintoff advances and hits it down the ground but the Kiwis will be happy that Collingwood will be on strike for the final over.
20th Over - Bowled by Styris:
1,6,6,6,6,6
PC: 31 (10)
AF: 52 (16) 250/3
Collingwood gets off strike with the first delivery and Flintoff virtually strikes New Zealand out of the game with an amzing five consecutive sixes. The first in down the ground to bring up the fifty partnership.
The second is over long on into cow corner follwed by another down the ground which clears the stand. The penultimate whack is over square leg and finally bringing up the fifty of Flintoff is a maximum over cow corner off a yorker delivery. Flintoff is truly one of a kind and England have batted out of their skins!
England's batting performance was the complete opposite from the first match showing they learnt from their mistakes. Cook will be disappointed with his dismissal but Pietersen continued his supreme form while Bell and Flintoff made half centuries and Collingwood chipped in with a cameo as well. It is the best twenty20 score from England ever and by a long way as well.
As for the New Zealand bowlers they were smacked to all areas of the park today. The most expensive were Styris and Oram but the only bowler that had an economy of under double figure was the Kiwi captain Daniel Vettori who has a lot of thinking to do ahead of the ODI series coming up.
The news here is that New Zealand will chase and if successful it will be the biggest run chase of all time. They need 251 at a massive 12.55 runs per over so join us after the break to see if they can pull off an upset or not.
