NEW ZEALAND INNINGS
New Zealand are going to have to climb a mountain to win this one but they will try their best. The openers are Fulton and Vincent.
1st Over - Bowled by Anderson:
0,4,0,0,6,4
PF: 14 (6)
LV: 0 (0)
14/0
New Zealand start well and England's James Anderson was a bit wild in the first over. Fulton was on strike for the whole over and hit two fours and a six. The six was down the ground and it went out of the ground. The two boundaries were a backfoot cover drive and a cut shot played over the top of the point fielders head.
2nd Over - Bowled by Broad:
4,1,6,4,0+wd,4,0
PF: 28 (10)
LV: 5 (2)
34/0
The Kiwis continue their good start and this time try and pummel Stuart Broad. Broad concedes four boundaries in his first over and England are having just the start with the ball they didn't want. Vincent cover drived for four off the first ball and from then Fulton hit another maximum down the ground and shot over mid on and over the covers for fours. Fulton looks great at the minute.
3rd Over - Bowled by Anderson:
4,0,0,1,0,0
PF: 28 (12)
LV: 10 (8)
39/0
Anderson tightens the ship for England and bowls well just giving five runs away and one boundary from Vincent through the covers. Anderson is the senior England bowler and needs to lead by example.
4th Over - Bowled by Broad:
0,0,4,4,4,0
PF: 28 (12)
LV: 22 (12)
51/0
The 4th over bowled by Broad is not good as England concede twelve runs from Lou Vincent's bat who is enjoying his promotion to the top of the order for sure. He hits two on drives to the boundary before scooping one over the covers for another four to bring up the fifty partnership between the openers. Stuart Broad certainly doesn't look happy with that over.
5th Over - Bowled by Anderson:
0,0,1,1,0,4
PF: 33 (17)
LV: 23 (13)
57/0
Anderson once again bowls well in the circumstances and gives away just six runs thanks to the boundary off of the last ball over mid on for four from Peter Fulton who is in the thirties and looking confident, calm and collected out in the middle.
6th Over - Bowled by Broad:
0+nb,6,4,0,6,6,1
PF: 33 (17)
LV: 46 (19)
81/0
Broad is murdered once again in his third over. Vincent manages to double his score in one over and Broad isn't having a good time at all conceding the majority of the runs. Vincent hits the first two sixes over mid wicket and mid on before hooking over the rope and a chipped cover drive for four. Surely Broad has to come out of the attack!
7th Over - Bowled by Anderson
0,0,0,0,1,1
PF: 34 (18)
LV: 47 (24)
83/0
Anderson finishes his allocation of overs superbly in giving just one run to each batsmen, Vincent and Fulton. He really has been unfortunate not to get a wicket in a great spell.
8th Over - Bowled by Flintoff:
0,6,0,4,0,0
PF: 44 (24)
LV: 47 (24)
93/0
Flintoff replaces the expensive Stuart Broad but Flintoff lacks control and concedes ten runs in his first over. Fulton disposes of Flintoff out the ground over cow corner and then chips straight down the ground off of his backfoot for a four moving him to 44 along with Vincent on 47 with both approaching half centuries.
9th Over - Bowled by Panesar:
0,1,0,0,0,0
PF: 44 (28)
LV: 48 (26)
94/0
Things are slowing down for the Kiwis and the run rate is going up but from England's point of view this over from the recalled Panesar was a beauty keeping it really tight and just giving one run away. Fulton especially looks a bit nervous now.
10th Over - Bowled by Flintoff:
1,0,1,0,1,0
PF: 45 (31)
LV: 50 (29)
97/0
Flintoff keeps it tighter in his second over and puts real pressure on New Zealand just conceding three runs. Lou Vincent reached a fine half century though off just 29 runs and this partnership really needs to be broken by England.
11th Over - Bowled by Panesar:
0,0,4,0,0,0
PF: 45 (31)
LV: 54 (35)
101/0
Panesar again frustrates the Kiwis and just gives away one boundary to Lou Vincent who brings up a brilliant 100 opening partnership with Peter Fulton with a perfect straight drive which beats the man at long on because of the power it was hit with.
12th Over - Bowled by Flintoff:
0,0,0,1,6,4
PF: 46 (35)
LV: 64 (37)
112/0
Flintoff continues and bowls well until the last two balls of the over which get hit for a six and a four by Vincent who is looking supremely confident now. The maximum is down the ground after advancing and the boundary is a beautiful cover drive as good a shot as we have seen in the match.
13th Over - Bowled by Panesar:
4,6,6,0,0,0
PF: 62 (41)
LV: 64 (37)
128/0
Fulton now brings up his half century by getting rid of Panesar with ease. He hits a boundary over mid on followed by one six over cow corner and another straight down the ground to catch up with the score of Vincent at the other end. The England fielders are looking increasingly nervous out in the middle.
14th Over - Bowled by Mascarenhas:
W,1,0,1,0,0+wd,0+nb,W
PF: 63 (43)
RT: 0 (0)
132/2
Paul Collingwood brings Mascarenhas into the attack and immediately England have their first breakthrough when Vincent goes for a big shot but is clean bowled by the deceiving pace of the bowler. A fine knock comes to an end and brings Stephen Fleming to the crease.
Then in the final ball of the over Mascarenhas unbelievably strikes again to get the wicket of Fleming caught on the long on boundary by Flintoff the man he replaced in the attack. Fleming fails again but Ross Taylor New Zealand's top scorer in the last game comes to the crease.
15th Over - Bowled by Panesar:
4,W,4,0,6,6
RT: 0 (0)
SS: 16 (4)
152/3
Panesar has a very mixed over going for twenty runs but getting England the crucial wicket of Peter Fulton for 67. The first ball of the over Fulton straight drived for a boundary but then the very next ball tried the same thing but aerial and didn't get hold of it. He was caught on the boundary but he has given the Kiwis a chance here.
Panesar was then destroyed by Scott Styris with a great four balls. Panesar firstly was square driven across the ground for four and then twice Styris advanced and whacked Panesar straight out of the ground to the excitement of the crowd.
16th Over - Bowled by Mascarenhas:
6,0,6,1,1,6
RT: 19 (5)
SS: 17 (5)
172/3
Mascarenhas proves very expensive and can't find a wicket in this over. Instead Taylor picks up from where he left off in the last match and hits three sixes. Twice over long on and one glorious hook shot for six. New Zealand now need 79 runs in four overs though surely it can't be done can it?
17th Over - Bowled by Collingwood:
W,6,6,6,W,1
RT: 19 (5)
BM: 1 (1)
191/5
In a dangerous situation the captain brought himself on and with his first ball he picked up the wicket of Scott Styris caught on the boundary again by Flintoff. This meant that Jacob Oram was now at the crease.
Oram exploded into the match by hitting three straight sixes off Collingwood twice over long on and a third time over mid wicket with a fine shot but the very next ball Colly got his man with a brilliant catch on the cover boundary from Mascarenhas. McCullum was now at the crease but despite the losing of two wickets it was a good over by the Kiwis.
18th Over - Bowled by Mascarenhas:
0,6,6,1,0,W
RT: 19 (7)
DV: 0 (0)
204/6
Mascarenhas had a bad time again conceding thirteen runs but in the circumstances it wasn't that bad because he also picked up the wicket of McCullum and now Vettori was at the crease. The two sixes hit by Taylor were over the leg side and mid on/cow corner. McCullum was run out going for a quick single down to third man in the circle.
19th Over - Bowled by Broad:
6,1,1,6,6,4
RT: 42 (12)
DV: 1 (1)
228/6
Broad was back into the attack but he has put England in a vulnerable position by conceding 24 runs and being whacked everywhere mainly by Ross Taylor. He was hooked driven and simply whacked out of the ground for a total of four boundaries capping off a bad day for the bowler. Now was it possible could New Zealand win the match if they were going to then they would need 23 runs to do so.
20th Over - Bowled by Mascarenhas:
6,0,6,6,0,6
RT: 42 (12)
DV: 25 (7)
252/6
I don't believe it New Zealand win!!! Vettori was on strike which was a good thing for England or was it? The first ball went for a maximum over cow corner leaving seventeen to run then a dot in the block hole followed by another maximum square over deep point! 11 to win! The fourth ball of the over went again hooked this time meaning the Kiwis needed 5 to win off of two balls. Next ball another dot 5 off of the last ball and Vettori advanced and hit it but it was chipped it was going to be close if it carried the Kiwis would win if it didn't England would win! It was caught on the boundary but Flintoff went over the rope!! New Zealand had done it they had chased down 251 to win in the most unbelievable Twenty20 Match of all time!
New Zealand batted superbly to chase down a massive total and contributions from Fulton and Vincent got them off to a flyer. Then Taylor played well and was not out at the end with cameos from Vetori, Oram and Styris being vital as well to pull of a great victory!
England's bowling lacked thought and the opening partnership destroyed Broad with Anderson being the only plus from England's point of view. They will learn a lot though from their mistakes in this match.
A wonderful match with both teams putting on fine showings and New Zealand pulling off a shock win here! However England's Kevin Pietersen got the man of the match award and the series was drawn 1-1. Join us after the break to find out the two men of the series and the stats from this series. If this match was anything to go by we are going to have some great ODI's!
