Intercontinental Cup 2007/08

I just hope that they can attract a few more 'Canadian' Canadians (if you see what I mean) instead of relying on large numbers of ex-pats (although you could argue that it's a similar problem with some other nations).

I'll check out the rest of the Canadian team as it'll be interesting to see if they have any future stars.

Also, it's the big one tomorrow with Scotland against Ireland. Not sure who's going to edge it but at the moment I'm going to sway towards Scotland (though my heart cries Ireland lol).

Squads are:

Ireland (from) Trent Johnston (capt), Andre Botha, Alex Cusack, Thinus Fourie, Dave Langford-Smith, Eoin Morgan, Kyle McCallan, Kevin O'Brien, Niall O'Brien, William Porterfield, Greg Thompson, Andrew White.

Scotland (from) Ryan Watson (capt), Richie Berrington, John Blain, Gordon Goudie, Gavin Hamilton, Steve Knox, Ross Lyons, Neil McCallum, Neil MacRae, Dewald Nel, Simon Smith, Craig Wright.

Don't hold your breath, there youth set up isn't the greatest.

Shahzad Khan; 20 years old, little bit of an allrounder, not played too much cricket but all accounts say he can bat a bit, and has a bit of a tinkering medium-fast pace.

Abdool Samad; Batting record is quite good, has helped Canada out lately and looks a cracker of a batsmen, hopefully more can be seen of him inside the First-class cricket, be it amatuer, he seems to be one to watch.

Im tired, ill look for more tomorrow :p

Hopefully as they have more cricket to look forward to then predecessors they'll be able to kick on. I always wonder how good Steve Tikolo could have been given the chances that Kenya have now or the opportunity to play first class cricket from a young age.

Hmm, yeah, Tikolo could have become something, but i know this isn't the thread, but think of all those Zimbabweans, who quit. There were some good, almost World Class players in there, Streak just to name one!

Its a shame that when a youth, or a gem is found, its sometimes spoilt by something the player is helpless to like, regimes or facilities not up to scratch.

Which is why I think that the Intercontinental Cup is a good thing, it gives the players that little bit of extra exposure, not only in the media, but to a higher standard of cricket.

It's going to take a lot for Scotland to win this. Ireland are just missing Boyd Rankin from their full strength squad, whilst Scotland have had eight players withdraw from their initial squad of 14 named for this match, which was already missing three of their four county players.

Looking at the scorecard for day 1 and you're probably correct. Cracking figures for Johnston and O'Brien and White went for just over .5 runs per over!

Ireland will be looking to finish off Scotland for less than 200 then build a healthy lead.

Ireland showed some good cricket in that first innings, and albeit against crappy opposition, its still stacking a claim, and its kinda saying to the ICC, look at me!

Who knows, Zimbabwe aren't doing so well, im sure its time for a replacement. Could be Ireland?
