I will break the news here. We are going 3D... and we?ll be the first sporting body in the world to do so.

$$$ For modi $$$

I have seen the presentation, it?s very expensive but from next year onwards, we hope that we?ll be able to make it available for all games. This year we?re experimenting with four games?last four games will be 3D. It?s a major innovation, it will be available in cinemas, pubs and bars.

We also want to introduce the spider cam wherein the camera actually moves across the ground like a spider web. Again it?s a hitech thing and we will be introducing it for the last four games. The IPL is here to build a brand and build on the consumer experience. Our job is to enhance the viewing features of the fans at home and in the stadium

Modi is really trying to take it to a new level along with introducing Youtube streaming along with this new Cinema 3D viewership.....

I want to watch Cricket for the Cricket, not the camera angles. Cricket is a sport, not a movie of any sort. All this glamour and glitz is becoming a little too much for me. Focus more on the Cricket, and less on the entertainment aspect of it. Good quality Cricket will always provide the fans and Modi doesn't seem to notice this, as he keeps trying to 'innovate' the sport.

With that said, I think it's a nice feature, but I'll still pass.

Go to hell Modi, and take the IPL with you :)

If he thinks this is the way to win over cricket fans, he's wrong.

The IPL should focus less on commercialising and more on providing a good contest.

Not a bad move, eventually 3D is going to become popular in the future with sporting events, etc. Infact there are some companies in the US who are thinking of trialling 3D television that customers can buy and watch 3D content at home.

IPL is not your property, your disliking wont bother him/IPL fans much.

3D IPL FTW :banana2

now everything about IPL is rip off ideas from soccer

IPL-3D will face the same problem that a 3hr movie with 3D faces - your eyes start to hurt after prolonged periods of watching 3D content (esp. if you are already wearing glasses behind the 3D glasses). I didnt enjoy Avatar towards the end precisely because of that (I already wear glasses and these glasses placed more stress on my eyes)

Why don't all these IPL threads or domestic related cricket just stay in the 'Domestic Cricket' forum?

I think people's hate for the IPL is getting in the way of what is a phenomenal step in sports broadcast entertainment. I, for one, cannot fathom how it would feel/look which is why it is so exciting.

The first live 3D sports broadcast is going to be on February 27, in a 6-nations rugby match. This puts such a broadcast, if it does happen, in a relatively pioneering situation. People are quick to bash the IPL but let's face it, the vast majority of members on this forum watch more cricket on TV than in stadiums. This would seemingly give them the ability to get closer to the game than ever before.

I can't wait for it and I may actually have to watch some of the IPL this time.

Umm.... while we're at it, let's get rid of the commentary, replays and camera angles. In fact, let's just give you a wide pan view of the pitch that never changes. If the ball goes to the other side of the field, too bad for you. If you want a better view, buy an expensive ticket to the pavilion so that you can get a better view...

Your post is a poorly directed rant at the IPL. This is not entertainment for the sake of entertainment--it is an attempt to get closer to the sport than ever before.

Do explain.

The same reason a thread about any international cricketer doesn't go into the "International Tours and Threads" forum. This thread is about a potentially pioneering step into sports broadcast entertainment--definitely for cricket broadcasting.

They are doing all the things they can do and capable of doing off the field. As far as the quality of cricket is concerned its a responsibility of the players and teams involved.

Well great move by modi. But I'll warn him to remember "too many cooks spoil the food". @saisrini: I even wear sight glasses. I even went to avatar 3d. But Imax theater provides you the glasses like mask, which enable you to wear it like a mask, not 3d glasses:)

too many cooks spoil the food
You're seriously making me forget the English which they taught me in skool, oops 'school'.Isn't it 'Too many cooks spoil the broth'?
And to those who feel IPL is sh*t,rubbish, etc.,Please Do not watch it at all.If you don't like it don't go on mentioning it in every possible thread.

You will be in the US right, sohum? Will the 3D be available for worldwide users or just for the people in India who have access to cinema halls, pubs and bars? If it will be available for us, USA audience, I would be definitely interested in getting that experience. Cricket in 3D will be fantastic.
