Italian Football Thread

Zeman's teams are always known for their terrible defending, but Roma's midfield was just as bad as their defence over the last few games! Not complaining his axe - it's definitely one we all saw coming and one he rightly deserved, rather just feel sad that Roma's entertaining gameplay has been put to rest following his departure.

Apparently that's his tenth sacking in his managerial career, so a 'star' to commommerate the same, maybe? :D

Ye ha im watching now. Still early days of course, but this is best balotelli has looked since the euro's. Maybe all it is that he needed was to be around his fellow italians at home & he was getting fed up of the dumb uk press pressure and weather.

I'm always a bit worried about sparkling debuts, I remember asprilla signing for newcastle and for the first month he looked like he was from a different planet, by the end of the season he was on the bench. going the other way when pavel nedved signed for juventus it looked like it had been a massive mistake as he was pretty ineffective, after about 6 months he started a sustained period of form where he was one of the best 2 or 3 players in the world.

so yeah, I'm still worried, but it was an encouraging start. I like that milan are playing with quite an italian side too.

oh, and it was fair comment when you said milan weren't world class up front haarithan, though I think if balotelli does perform you'd have to revise that and say they were.

I find it amazing that while he was here, the guy made a twat of himself, when he left he slagged the country off, yet his Milan debut still manages to make it onto the sports section of our National news. :facepalm Who cares??

well, the making a twat of himself is why he became a high profile character in the press.

obviously, him being a city player that won the league off your lot has nothing to do with your dislike of him, dunno how you don't rate him either, didn't you watch the match where he ran man u ragged? what was it, 6-1? ;)

He was excellent in the FA Cup Semi-Final win as well. He's clearly a very talented player, who could be a world-class player if he matures properly.

Ummm... I don't recall saying that I don't rate him? I don't like him because whenever someone who is clearly talented but is doing their best to throw it away, it makes my blood boil: I would give anything to be in their position! On top of that, I don't like him because the minute he left, he was slagging off my country right, left and centre. If it was about him being a City player, then I'd be slagging off Hart, Aguero etc etc as well. Of course, Tevez has a 'special' place as far as I'm concerned because he went from Utd straight to City (proceeding to play a huge part in helping them win the title).

As for 6-1: ancient history. Only one number concerns me right now: Nine. ;)

Don't see anything in him, think he is over hyped.

Take note of his performance against Germany in the Euros - he was excellent in that game.

No doubt about it in my mind.

Lineup v Holland announced and it's a nice looking 4-3-3:

------------Buffon
Abate - Barzagli - Astori - Santon
--Montolivo---Pirlo---De Rossi
Diamanti----Balotelli----El Shaarawy

So happy for Davide Santon, who finally seems to have got his career back on track.

Ye Santos has looked good in the last two seasons for Newcastle. Would you say he is better left-back option for the azzuri over balzaretti or criscito (spell check) now?

Definitely. Balzaretti has been poor for a while now since his 3.5m summer move to the Eternal city. Heard Criscito's enjoying a good season at Russia so not really sure as to why he didn't even make the squad - surely would have been my second choice LB to Santon.

Ok cool. I realize also that Casano has not played since the euro's - what really is the position on him?

Clueless myself Colin. He's had a very good season for Inter which further baffles me regarding him constantly being overlooked.

Ha ye, he is one of the reasons i watch serie a. His experience would look lovely alongside super mario and the pharaoh.

But i guess a few big national teams coaches are leaving out some big players for some spurious reasons.

England with Ferdinand, Italy with Casano, Argentina with Tevez, France with Nasri (although this is sort of understandable), Spain with Arteta...
