Italian Football Thread

There you go Colin, the national side's twitter feed had this to say to me now (read from bottom to top):

Something I'd feared was the case a while back.

12/11/12

Cassano I think's suffering a fate similar to Toto Di Natale, where Cesare Prandelli isn't really willing to commit himself into offering 30+ aged strikers much chances, with the 2014 WC in mind. Can't see any other reason in the case of Cassano.

Ahh well at least he is likely to at least make the 2014 squad once his forms remains, so that reasoning for not picking him now is acceptable then.

Great result at the Amsterdam Arena - Holland dominated us for a majority of the game, but I thought Italy matched the hosts in the number of clear cut chances created. Pirlo in the first half and Verratti who replaced him in the second were standouts at midfield, and Astori was a beast at CB, and Buffon had a great game too making some seriously good stops.

Next up for the Azzurri - Brazil at Geneva on March 21. Easy. ;)

The title race just blew wide open! What a time for Roma to register their first league win in 2013, and even better, what a strike from Francesco Totti!

A win tonight for Napoli at home to Sampdoria means Juve will only be two points cleared at the top! Forza Napoli!

FFS Napoli! Credit to Sampdoria though - excellent 2013 where they've managed points against Juve (2-1), Milan (0-0), Roma (3-1) and Napoli (0-0)!

I thought Pirlo had suffered a broken leg early in the match when he Totti unfortunately collided with his leg.

I think when talk of the world's best goal-keepers are mentioned currently, Samir Handanovi? should be in conversation now.

Surely yes. He's saved Inter a lot of points this season.

Can't believe Milan didn't win yesterday. Absolute pwnage of Inter in the first half, with Handanovic all by his own self denying Balotelli a hat-trick of clear cut chances. Inter took their solitary golden opportunity through second half sub, Schelotto, so this was nothing but a smash and grab point for the Nerazzurri.

Definitely. Been a beast this season.

he probably would be rated quite highly even from his udinese days but any time you say anything about a serie A player everyone just goes "italian football is rubbish these days."

Allegri has really impressed me, I was prepared to give him some space after the poor start just because milan had made so many changes but he's gone beyond my expectations and they're really beginning to become quite impressive. it's not looking like it's going to take too much to turn them in to contenders in the league and europe.

Allegri has always been a remarkable manager, glad that Milan stayed with him.

A goal and 2 assists yesterday. 225 career goals. One club man. All time 2nd highest goalscorer in Serie A. Our Il Gladiatore, Francesco Totti
