ITS TERRIBLE.Its not in the same league as BLIC.

the xbox version is different to the pc game. they both suck badly, excect you can tweak the pc version to suck less (and you can save games whereas you can't save a single thing on xbox). the xbox is full of all of the bugs the original pc one was - i don't think any of the pc c2005 fanboys can honestly say the original was worth playing - but thatnks to patches it is ok. there's no consistency in c2005 on xbox - you simply can't get better at it - it's all luck. and whilst BL on xbox is more arcadey - you know when you've played a bad shot and you know when you've played a good shot, and the results reflect this. in c2005 you don't know what's going to happen because the batting and ai is so faulty.

having said that, the pc fanboys for c2005 are telling a few fibs. when they say it's more of a sim, that simply means you can't go out and hit 36 runs an over because you've mastered the game. the only reason for this is C2005 will randomly make you play a bad shot if you go the six button every time - thus you can't afford to do it everytime, thus you tend to play more 1s and 2s....this in my books does not make it a more realistic 'sim', it makes it a boring game.

Now I don't know about your XBox version having never played it but being a 'pc fanboy' I have a few points to clear up with/for you.

I disagree that you can't tell when you've hit good and bad shots in C2K5. Now I should make clear that I make use of Tutsi's AI patches which have modified the shots and pretty much all other AI settings and so there's a rather more obvious distinction between good and bad shots than with the default settings. That having been said, I don't believe that the timing is unpredictable or random. In order to get the right screenshots for my batmaking thread I have to execute a back foot straight drive so that I can get the correct angles and zoom level. But I can't just play that shot to any delivery: it has to be the appropriate line and length for it to be played effectively. I know this from all the times I've edged it behind, going for one that's slightly too far from my body; getting caught and bowled for playing too early; smacking it past the bowler when hit well; and fluffing it into the turf when mis-timing it (and I also know this deductively from logic!). The same principle applies to six-hitting, only the timing is that much harder given the bat-speed the batsman has to generate to get through the ball properly. If it were that easy to hit 36 off 1 over, it would have been done more than once in Test history. Which brings me to point 2....

It's not a question of mastering the game of cricket or even HB Studios' rendering of it: how boring would that be?! For my money, the sign of a quality sports game is one that is free from exploits from the point of view of the player and handicaps from the point of view of the CPU player. The beauty of sports is that they can never be mastered. There might be a so-called 'best player' but even they can't master the game. Ask Tiger Woods if he's mastered Golf. And he's supposed to be the best ever!

Finally, we don't play sports games as ourselves. If we did, we wouldn't need or want faithful representations of the real players. The reason they are there is to mediate our experience of the sport. That's why scoring a century with Simon Jones is impressive within the context of both real cricket and within the game, while doing it with Tendulkar, Lara, or Strauss is not so extraordinary. I don't want to be able to score 300 with every player because the game works irrespective of the real players attributes; what would be the point? After all, that's why we talk about simulation.
