Jan 3-7: 5th Test: Australia v England at Sydney

Why isn't Snicko being used? There was nothing to say that it was out until we saw the snicko which showed the noise. I hope no one is blaming Aleem Dar for changing his decison because you are not going to stick with it if you have been told there is inconcusive evidence.

On the Hughes catch, didn't the same thing happen in the last ashes, when Strauss claimed the catch of his batting?

I tend to agree. How come the snicko meter was shown after the call was man from the 3rd umpire. They didn't show the snicko when the decision was in the balance. If Allem Dar saw that footage of the snicko, then he would of stuck with his decision.
It confusses me why snicko wasn't used until 5 minutes prio of the incident, and not shown when the decision had to be made?

CRICKET: England's Paul Collingwood announces retirement from Tests at end of current match in Sydney

A great servant to English cricket and what a wonderful career he has had.

Apparently it can't be used straight after the dismissal and it takes a couple of overs to 'build'. That's why the viewers don't get snicko straight away but about an over later. If the UDRS used it then it would cause even more of a delay.

And Colly retiring! That's disappointing, a great performer for England over the years, unfortunate he couldn't go out on a high.

Good on Collingwood for calling it quits, a great career and hopefully he has a few more years left in limited overs cricket.

I wish I could write a post here that truly got across the appreciation I have for Paul Collingwood, personally and as an england fan.

His retirement today embodies everything about the man. Concerned only with the team and its future. If every cricketing youngster had Colly's attitude, we'd all have nothing to worry about.

Athers was saying he wouldn't be remembered for his averages but for his persona. I hope that's true. Those catches, those rear guard innings' and best of all those last chance saloon knocks that I think we all endured together

Together test cricket has lost a great chap, and I don't mind saying it has lost my childhood idol

Colly, you are a legend.

I am glad that I am not an Aussie fan right now. This must be so painful to watch after all those years of dominance. What's worse is that it's a five test series so it's like Chinese torture. I feel for you. At the same time though, I love watching Ponting lose. I don't hate Australia as much when Clarke is at the helm because he's one of my favorite players.

So the English really are dwelling on the Hughes catch and ignoring the Bell nick? :facepalm This is probably why it's best to avoid over-moralising your cricket. The temptation to turn it into some sort of jingoistic pride of your team's fairness is great, but the likelihood that it comes back and makes you look like a tool is even greater.

It's a tricky one isn't it. Why the double standards ? If batsmen don't walk, and they leave the decision to the umpire, it is acceptable. If the whole team appeals for a dismissal when they know for sure it's not out, and thus leave it in the umpire's hands it's acceptable. However, claiming a catch that's touched the ground and leaving it to the umpires is not acceptable ? Just saying...it's strange how the morals in cricket are.

I think Bell didn't walk because he was the last batsman. He gambled his luck with the UDRS again. Succeeded this time though. Remember the Plumb LBW that was only referred for the no-ball??

One genuinely thought he wasn't out while the other knew as a fact that it wasn't out then decided to start celebrating because his captain thought it was out.

They don't compare for me. Hughes was blatantly cheating Bell wasn't sure and thought he might as well use the review which ruled in his favour.

Colly might not be the only career this Ashes will claim. I reckon we might see at least one more, but from the Australian side. They don't play another test till August something, long time for some of the older bunch.
